rambie's Review of Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10x56mm Rifle Scope
Used last year (2017) for deer hunting with my AR. I really grew to appreciate it. It did get dropped from the tree stand from about 20' and survived ok. (I don't think it landed on the scope, but I didn't see it fall).
I see deer clearly in very low light in (murky) mature planted pines and the illumination is adequate to go from near darkness to mid-morning. Illumination is no longer effective in daylight, but it's not a problem as the reticle takes over. I leave the illumination on the entire hunt so if the animal goes from bright light to a dark area, the illumination will take over.
Let me put this to rest... I used to think illumination HAD to be daylight bright. This scope proved to me that's really not needed.
Downsides
1) No auto-on/off -- I've forgotten to turn it off and following weekend had a dead battery. I now store a spare 2032 battery in the grip handle and check it before leaving home (it will last for 4-6 days easy).
2) No auto-brightness. I have it real dim at dawn and have to remember to manually increase the illumination as it gets brighter. It's not that huge a deal, since the reticle is pretty good, even in low light. It's never been "too" bright.
3) Around 23 oz, so it's a little heavy.
Upsides:
1) Excellent optic quality for the price. Very pleased. Perfect for tree stand use.
2) Quick off: In between each numeric value is a "-", this allows you to turn illumination off by rotating the illumination one click instead of back to zero, something I grew to appreciate.
3) zoom ring intuitive and not too stiff.
I have had Leupold Nikon and other brands. I will probably look at Trijicon first on future optic purchases, I'm so pleased.
