rambie's Review of Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10x56mm Rifle Scope

Mounted on AR in 7.62x39 with aero precision 2x forward mount. Taken several deer with it out to 200 yds, mostly around 100 yds. It works well at dusk/dawn in planted pine, which of course is a rather low light situation. At 2 lbs, it's really only a treestand scope, not really practical for offhand shooting without support.

I have managed to drop the rifle (knot slipped) from about 20-25 ft. happily no damage and it held it's zero just fine.
Glass quality is good.

The reticle is not daylight bright, which I was initially concerned about, but proved in practice to not be any big deal. I leave the dot on all the time while hunting, so if the animal goes across the break in the trees to the less well lighted creek bed, the black crosshairs pick it up in the lighted area and the green dot takes over in the dark areas and I don't skip a beat.

I opted for the green mil dot after being a MOA person and now prefer mil dot as well as green color. The dots allow quick offhand bullet drop compensation while shooting subsonic rounds.

The only real downside besides weight is no automatic power off. At mid-way on the scale, the battery will only last a couple weeks if you forget to turn it off. I duct tape a spare cr2032 to an out of the way location on the rifle in case I find out after I am in the stand. (Battery compartment opens with a coin.) To be clear, you can hunt just fine without the battery, no different than any other comparable non-illuminated scope. If you turn off when not in use, the battery will last the entire season hunting every weekend. In between each number is a dot which allows you to turn the illumination off by just one click.

  • Quality
  • rugged
  • Affordable

Cons:
  • Heavy
  • no automatic power off
