Coodevale's Review of Troy 7.2in TRX 308 Battle Rail
I thought I'd splurge a little and get this on sale, think I paid 75$ for it. In my opinion that was about 70$ too much. It's a wobbly poorly designed waste of money and aluminum. The inner surface of the handguard has deep fat splines, I have no opinion on it specifically other than it makes it unnecessarily heavy without aggressive lightening cuts. Theoretically it's a good idea and it would very positively engage with an appropriately matched barrel nut and keep it from rotating or shifting on the nut. Problem is the id is bored out where it interfaces with the barrel nut and the nut itself was splined appropriately to match the handguard before the od was turned down so only a small trace of spline remains. The 1/8" gap in the bottom of the handguard is almost completely closed by the time it starts to get tight on the nut, and from past experience with cheap handguards using a similar mount it won't hold because the surfaces aren't parallel. I'm glad I got it on sale but I'm not glad I got it. I'll be sticking to the 35-50$ handguards that use the simple mounting method of 6 cap screws into a long barrel nut and most likely avoiding any more high dollar handguards I don't see in the wild first.
Pros:
It's heavy, so it'll sink well.
Cons:
Overpriced
Best Used for:
Paperweights and ballast
