Most Helpful Positive Review Vltor A5 buffer
I am currently building a 308 with a vltor A5 system. I didn’t realize that I needed a carbine buffer when I purchased this but I spoke with vltor and they gave me some real good advice on my build so I decided to to keep it and start a new build with this. It seems well made and the staff at vltor are super cool. No hands on experience yet.

Great Buffer

by Nate, Verified Owner from KS, United States Written on October 23, 2025
I use this in my 11.5" AR with a Forced Reset Trigger and it works great with a suppressor, it slows down the cycling enough to make it reliable and controllable.

Better buffer system

by Gunner257, Verified Owner from SD, United States Written on September 21, 2025
The a5 buffer has an internal spring which positions the buffer weights forward in the buffer body. This leads to more consistent functioning in semi-auto rifles. The buffers are also available in heavier weights than the standard carbine buffers.

Great Upgrade

by Michael, Verified Owner from NH, United States Written on May 21, 2025
I purchased a VLTOR A5 Extended Buffer Tube and A5H2 Buffer (with a Geissele Super 42 Rifle Length Braided Spring and Forward Controls Design Extended Castle Nut) for a 14.5" Pin & Weld Barrel with a Mid-length Gas System and it runs FLAWLESSLY. It's some of the most comfortable shooting I've ever done. I highly recommend the A5 System; it feels super solid and has reduced any B"Bolt Bounce". The only problem with the A5 Buffer Tube is that it does not lock many Stocks is the "#1 Position" due to its overall length, I dont really care about that but some OCD's will,
Pros:
  • Quality
Cons:
  • price
Best Used for:
  • soft shooting

vltor 5.3 oz a5 buffer weight

by Steven Boykin, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on March 28, 2024
I am changing my 18" spr build to a b5 collapsible stock from a standard a2 rifle stock and needed a buffer with similar weight to a rifle length weight. Combined with a voltr a5 receiver extension and the stock rifle spring i was able to achieve the transformation without loss of reliability . Optics planet had what i needed at the best price i could find. And their shipping time has improved drastically. They always seem to have what i need at the best price, and the shipping is free .

Great buffer

by Travis K., Verified Owner from NH, United States Written on August 5, 2021
I bought this for my 13.7 build, and it has outstanding performance. Cycles very smoothly. No issues or malfunctions so far. You can't go wrong with any VLTOR products, and especially not this buffer.

11.5 pistol buffer

by YS, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on June 1, 2021
I’m running this H3 buffer on a 11.5 heavy barrel with plans for a suppressor. The felt recoil mitigation is fantastic combined with a warcomp and I highly recommend the A5 system. Running it on several rifles. Going forward I will just swap out weights rather than buying new complete buffers.

Standard buffer for A5 System

by Kyle, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on May 22, 2021
This is the standard buffer weight for the VLTOR A5 buffer system. It weighs the same as a rifle buffer and works great for most setups. Since this is the standard buffer for the A5 system, it is often harder to find in comparison to other buffer weight options.
Pros:
  • well made
  • standard
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Most application of the A5 buffer system

What Weight

by kmaeron, from LA, United States Written on November 23, 2020
I run a 6.8 oz in my service rifle with fast heavy loads. I was using a Tubb weight that inserted into the back of the bolt carrier, but you had to pull both pins to open the the the upper as it made the bolt carrier a little longer. Since the 6.8 is on long back order I had to get one from HeavyBuffers recently to use with my MagPul Gen II UBR stock.
Pros:
  • Tune your gun with heavy loads or suppressor
Cons:
  • Knowing what weight to use
  • Has to be used with a special length buffer

A5H2 and A5H1 Review

by Alex, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on November 14, 2020
Good quality stuff, the way to go is the a5h2 for mid length or carbine length gas systems or h1 or lower for intermediate or rifle length systems. I haven’t Tun suppressed but you’ll probably need to either up a weight or leave it. Generally if you’re ejecting 3-3:30 o’clock you should be good since the system is designed to allow for more forgiving spring mass damper settings than conventional systems. Run a sprinco green buffer spring as well.
Pros:
  • Finish
  • Gas system
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Gucci builds

VLTOR A5 Buffer

by Woody, from TX, United States Written on September 9, 2020
Love the VLTOR A5 system! This is my 3rd build using it. I won’t use anything else going forward, unless VLTOR ends up coming out with something that improves upon their own product. The H1 or H2 buffers should cover most peoples’ needs, suppressed or otherwise.
