COLDKING's Review of Volquartsen Firearms Firefly Bolt for the Ruger 10/22
The bolt ran flawlessly for 2 weeks in my takedown 10/22 - cycling the CCI quiet 710-fps rounds.
But around the second week of use -probably a 1000 rounds though it, the bolt started to bind and then stopped cycling altogether - I called the manufacturer and they didn’t know what was going on. Well my back ground in engineering tells me this - the bolt is made of cheap aluminum - and when it cycles rearward it depresses a steel hammer - the hammer started to shave the bottom of the bolt off! This could be remedied by installing a steel sleeve over this raised rail or simply manufacturing the bolt out of titanium -
And for what this tiny bolt cost it should have been made of titanium !
Thanks to Optics Planet another one is on the way - but I’m skeptical that I’ll get much in the way of longevity if you are a high volume shooter. I can’t beleive that Valquartson didn’t respond to my 2nd and 3rd email adessing this inferior metal problem - guess making 100 % profit is more important than quality ?
But I am also extremely happy with the service from Optics Planet!
I can not recommend this product until the folks at Valquartson address the metal fatigue issue’s
