MikeInVirginia's Review of Volquartsen Firearms Firefly Bolt for the Ruger 10/22
I received the Volquartsen Firefly bolt in a blister pack - on installation instructions provided. I couldn't find any on-line, and surprisingly not even a YouTube video on installing it. I worked on installing it for about two hours, and was on the verge of returning it, when I found the secret and got it installed. Once in, it works great and is reliable!
Here is what I did: 1) Unscrew the cocking handle. Use cloth around it (to avoid marring) and some pliers. Turn counterclockwise. 2) Remove stock, and turn action upside down and clamp the receiver in a padded vise (to avoid marring). 3) Remove the standard bolt. 4) Install the guide rod into the new bolt, with spring in place. 5) Slide the bolt in from rear of receiver. The flat end of the guide rod will hit the inside of the receiver. 6) Apply firm pressure to the pointy end of the guide rod. This will compress the spring. 7) Rock the bolt until the flat end of the guide rod moves forward toward the gun barrel, a little at a time. 8) Keep compressing the spring until you can work the pointy end fully into the receiver. There is a socket to place the pointy end of the guide rod in. 9) Lubricate lightly, and you're done! 10) Reinstall stock on receiver. It says never to shoot ammo over 1000 fps, so I made up a sticker and placed it on the stock: "Use <1000 fps ammo only." You'll have to reinstall the original bolt to shoot normal .22 ammo (>1000 fps). Now I use it with CCI Quiet-22 ammo (710 fps) and it works great. So quiet it sounds like an airgun. So if you're capable of doing all the above, I recommend it!

Pros:
- Reliably cycles low velocity (<1000 fps) ammo.
Cons:
- No installation instructions provided. You have to figure out the one way to do it, and clearances are very tight.
Best Used for:
- Cycling <1000 fps ammo in the Ruger 10/22.
