Expert Review

Super Useful

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on September 27, 2017
I had the original, sold it to get the newer model.

Great to keep in a range bag, rifle case, hiking pack, or even the car.

Never know when a little extra magnification is going to come in handy and the rough distance estimation comes in handy more than people think.

Mostly gets used when target shooting at known distances so really happy with the quality/clarity.

But if shooting unknown distances or hunting, the ranging reticle is great.

I usually keep mine in the truck so it is on hand at the range or wherever else I am and clips onto my belt for when I'm out in the field.

Love the upgrades they made from the original, just made a great product even better.

I do wish it was 10x instead of 8x but not really a big deal.
Most Helpful Positive Review Vortex 8x32 Ranging Monoocular
I'd been considering acquiring a monocular for some time. I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. The optics are sharp. The ranging features of the reticle are intuitive. The quick ranging silhouettes are a very nice feature. It is light weight and I like the carry case which can be attached to a pack. Most of the time I wear it around my neck on a lanyard I made from paracord. That brings me to the only negative associated with this monocular. The supplied lanyard was a piece of junk. No biggie, as the hole on the monocular body is just big enough for paracord.

Good optic

by Snipe67, Verified Owner from MT, United States Written on November 10, 2023
This monocular is better than i expected, purchased to use on my final stalks during sniper training, clarity is great, size is good fills the hand not to small, reticle is a nice bonus, the clip is a little big to use securely but works great as a flat surface to rest on your tripod for stediness. Focus is a little stiff for 1 hand operation but imagine that will ease up with time, case is a little snug but no complaints, very handy for patrols, in the glove box or any where you need to go lite and wont be glassing for hours. Nice addition to my kit.
Pros:
  • Lite, clear, handy
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • A quick look, going lite,reconn

Vortex Recce Pro HD 8x32mm Monocular

by Morgan H, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on July 10, 2022
I bought this for range finding on hunting excursions. It feels very rugged and comes highly recommended. Not sure what others are complaining about when it comes to the focus ring. It's smooth and tight and unless you have gurly hands it's easy to adjust. The glass is clear and as bright as could be expected for a 32mm obj lens. My only issue with this particular unit is there's a speck on the reticle at the 5 mil mark. I haven't decided if it's enough to return or have it fixed yet. I'm sure the VIP warranty will resolve the issue. Those who seem to be having a hard time storing the unit in the original pouch, it will fit a Blue Force Gear flashbang pouch easily. Anybody who wears glasses, the eye cup will fold down around the ocular lens for better eye relief. This item is good to go.
Pros:
  • Rugged, good tactile functioning focus ring. Reticle is easy to read and the quick glance silhouettes are a plus
Cons:
  • Glass has history of slight blemishes
Best Used for:
  • Hunting, tactical

Really well build, solid and clear glass

by Sim, from QC, Canada Written on November 21, 2019
I was looking for a monocular mainly because I do short observation to confirm targets hits at range or determine if I am looking at a deer or a stump :) Love the glass, plenty of light. The range recticule is a real pleasure. With a little practice, I can now determine range of games and avoid my rangefinder. It also take less place than my binoculars.
Pros:
  • Recticule, clear glass, compact
Cons:
  • Eye strain if you look for a long time

one design flaw

by Stephen Rubino, from VT, United States Written on July 28, 2019
The eye relief is made out of a very flexible material but when deployed for anyone the needs eye relief because we wear glasses the eye relief cap will not protect the lens. Does not fit. This makes getting a quick range nearly impossible because of the unique shape of the eye relied piece requires a few seconds to bend it over to correct position.
Pros:
  • Quality of lens
Cons:
  • eye relief
Best Used for:
  • Birds and Nature Observation

Surprisingly pleased

by Kraken 1760, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on November 12, 2018
Ordered this for hunting, ranching, and long range shooting. The compactness of this product is very nice and allowed me to leave the bino's at home and save some space in the console. The class is very clear, and the ranging reticle is easy to see and use. Exactly what I was looking for, I would recommend this to others.
Pros:
  • Magnification
  • Rugged and reliable
  • clearity
  • Size & Weight
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Ranging
  • Hunting Recreational viewing
  • ranching

Vortex 8 x 32 Recce Pro HD Ranging Reticle Monocular

by Paul, from TX, United States Written on July 10, 2017
Outstanding product - great optics. I have used this for general scanning and observation as well as target ranging.
The attached/tethered lense caps are rear for protecting the glass in dusty/sandy environments. This stays with my move-out bag - never needs batterie for target ranging.
