Most Helpful Positive Review Extreme Quality & Value
I got a new rifle (Browning X-Bolt) and wanted quality glass on it. I compared this scope side by side with a Leopold VX-6 of the exact same magnification and objective lens size. The optic quality was virtually identical. YES, I looked through BOTH. Both have a "No Questions Asked" Lifetime warra...

Most Helpful Negative Review Not as good as I expected
I hate being the only poor review for this scope, but I wanted to bring up a few things that bothered me that others might be concerned with. First the good: The optics are generally clear and bright. The elevation and windage adjustments are great. They are positive and have excellent tactile...

Great for the 6mm bad for the ground squirrels!

by WILL, from WA, United States Written on May 17, 2018
This is exactly what I was looking for knowing its limitations. Beautiful image in all of the best light levels though VERY finicky about eye your relief and position. Nice crisp reticle, I would love more hash marks for windage rather than its current 8 MOA, at the least 12 MOA and one more ballistic drop point would be nice. This is a slow scope but perfect for the times when you can adjust and dial in your yardage/parallax and zoom level on target. When operated correctly it is dead on, adjustments to the reticle are precise, crisp and repeatable with the ability to reset your 0 after sighting in, protected with very nice dust caps to preserve the smoothness of the dials and your settings. Fit and finish is very nice unless you look really close and as others have said the anodizing can scratch fairly easily. OpticsPlanet.com's sale price was impossible to pass up! Check the rear objective size for your guns clearance issues, a little bit bigger than others with a little screw sticking out at 6 o'clock that can rub a bolt handle if fit close! Happy shooting!
Pros:
  • sunshade
  • Nice clear image
  • 4X zoom
  • parallax free 30 yards out
  • 42 mm objective
  • fast eye focus
  • Dead Hold BDC reticle
Cons:
  • finicky eye relief
  • scratches easy
  • reticle gets lost on dark objects/dusk
  • Dead Hold BDC reticle
Best Used for:
  • ground squirrels; yellow bellies, paper and steel

Vortex Scope

by mm, from NV, United States Written on May 9, 2018
Scope is excellent, very good product. Put on Browning BLR in .243 win.
OpticsPlanet very good to work with, good price, good service.
Shipping was very bad, Fed Ex delayed package twice for no reason. Took forever to get here.
I guess I should not complain, because shipping was free.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • Shipping could be better

Nice Build Quality

by SB, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on April 3, 2018
I purchased the vortex diamondback to go on a deer hunting rifle. I wanted something that would be able to give me a clear sight picture and still be durable enough to take a beating on the trail. So far I am very happy with this scope. The build construction is very nice and the glass is super clear. I have purchased vortex scopes in the past and I will continue to do so in the future. As of yet I have not had to use their warranty program since the scopes have been great out of the box but if I ever need to I am confident in their customer service.

Vortex Believer

by Mike, Verified Owner from MO, United States Written on March 2, 2018
I had purchased a new Carson 3D 6-18x50mm scope for using at the range for long distance and was not happy at all with magnification from 12 and up. The scope was very cloudy and distorted at these higher magnifications... I returned it and replaced it with a Vortex Diamondback HP 3-12X42 and wow what a difference!! Very clear from 3-12. The vortex was very quick and easy to bore sight and fine tune from there as well. I did a lot of research (Reading reviews and watching videos) before I purchased either product and the Carson really was a let down... The Vortex was an instant relief and I was glad to spend an additional $164.00 difference! I had a lot of people telling me that a good 3-12 scope would be much better than a "not so good" 6-18... they were right!!
Pros:
  • Clear and accurate
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting and target

Vortex Diamondback HP 3-12x42mm - great scope

by Dave B, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on December 4, 2017
Based on online reviews, I decided to buy this scope. It is my first Vortex product, but will not be my last. I found it exactly as the vast majority of other reviewers had, a quality scope and excellent value. I mounted it on a Tikka T3 Lite in .30-06 that had had another scope of similar value installed. The Vortex was an immediately noticeable upgrade. I really like the eye relief, excellent clarity and the design of the reticle. The adjustments were easy to use. I ran a 6 inch "box drill" to check for repeatability, and ended up exactly at my initial zero. I used it during this year's deer season, including one very rainy day and it performed flawlessly. Bottom line, an excellent scope for the price. The only way I see to get a better rifle scope is to pay a lot more money. I also bought the Vortex front lens cover, but found it to be expensive and unnecessarily heavy. I much prefer cheaper Butler Creek covers, although the Vortex cover is clearly more durable.
Pros:
  • Excellent value
Cons:

Great scope

by GB, from AL, United States Written on July 9, 2017
Completely satisfied with this scope. I would put this scope up to any on the market. Very clear and easy to read. I'm dialed in and ready for deer season. I've had great success with Vortex and expect nothing less from this one.

Diamondback sight in

by Henry, from MN, United States Written on June 30, 2017
The optics were clear and precise . The only down fall was,as I was mounting it the rings scratched the flat finish pretty easily , pretty much as soon as the ring was sitting on it and I was leveling it .

Crystal Clear

by Walleye, from MO, United States Written on September 19, 2016
This is one of the clearest scopes I have ever looked through. The sharpness of the image & cross hairs is un-matched in a scope of this price range. I would definitely recommend this product! I had intended on mounting this on a Colt Sauer, but was unable to do so because the tube length wasn't quite long enough. Probably wouldn't be a problem though for other makes.

Cost effctive

by Gastone, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on June 3, 2016
For the price it's great. My decision was between the 3-12 side focus and the 4-12 AO version. The AO offered a much better field of view, but the 3-12SF offered the lower power and an included sun shield. This scope is on a .22lr that's used to shoot ground squirrels by the hundreds out to 150 yards, so I need the sharp focus and parallax adjustment. It does the job very nicely. Just wish it had a better field of view.
