Open range/long distance perfection - Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, Second Focal Plane

This is an awesome scope, and it should be purchased for either target shooting or open range shooting. The reason is the low end being 4 power is too much for short range deer hunting. At least for me. With some things in life, less is more and this is true for this 4-16x scope. Looking at a deer 25 - 50 yards with 4 power brings you right up close - too close. And you can visually lose the animal too. If you live out west where there is a lot of open range hunting, this would be outstanding. But for the southeast US, I'd choose a different scope - and I did. I sold this and used the money to buy a different Vortex HS that is 2.5 - 10. Perfection! Now this scope has excellent glass (made in the Philippines), quality knobs and has good focus and reticle. In short - everything that you would expect from a Vortex. I had my Bergara shooting an MOA group in 6 shots at 200 yards. It was the easiest zero I ever had the pleasure to perform. Just beautiful. So go grab one! You won't regret it. Just remember this one works best for longer, open distances and not so much woodsy areas.
