I own (or have owned) a lot of optics over the years. Currently I own two of these Vortex Vipers in 4-16X44 with the duplex reticle. I do think they are a good optic for range work however they fail as a hunting scope compared to several others I own in the same general price range. In fact I own at least two other brands in the 4-16x category that cost less and deliver a much better hunting scope. The glass is clear and the eye relief and eye box are acceptable however the field of view is poor and low light performance is no better than other scopes I own that cost hundreds less. I like the parallax adjustment knob (it works very well) but the power ring has no built in throw lever (not even a small one) which makes it hard to determine your magnification setting in low light. I think my biggest complaint is the large black circle around the image you see when looking through the ocular lens. I own several other brands and while some others also have a black ring the Vortex is excessive. If I had it to do over again I would not have ordered these two scopes even if they had been on sale which was the case at the time.

I have out this optic through its paces and it has performed exactly as I hoped. Highly reccomend.

I am a fan of Vortex for scopes, I have there strike eagle 1-8 which i love, and their fairly cheaper diamondback 4-16 on my 6.5 creedmore, The first one of these viper scopes I got I first used at 300 yd and I just could never seem to get good focus which I've never had on any other scope before, even at that distance, messed around with all the settings and had no luck so I returned it and got a new one which was annoying.

the new one is better but honestly I can't say it's any more clear or easier to see things than the $200ish cheaper diamondback 4-16 i have, not sure of this one is also slightly defective or not, But that just means the scope has poor quality control, or it's just nothing great.

I have it, it works, ill use it, but im not thrilled with it.

This scope is great for both long and short range and is incredibly clear. Never had any issues with things such as fogging. Extremely easy to adjust and move the scope as well. But down quite a few animals with it now. Worth the buy.

Great scope for the money. Very clear with generous eye relief. No issues zeroing on my Browning A-Bolt .270 Win and I like the pop up dials that can set back to zero. Looks great mounted with low rings, classic design that I appreciate as I grow older. My only dissatisfaction, and the reason of only 4 stars, would be the narrow field of view versus my obviously more expensive Leupold VX-6 2x12 and VX-5 3x15 scopes. It isn't a deal breaker but almost like looking down a long pipe at 16x power. Its something you can definitely get used to over time. However, in a hunting situation it would be difficult to follow a running deer with the limited view on higher magnifications. Still, at less that 1/3rd the cost of Leupold VX-6, I can't complain. I don't tend to hunt on 16x power anyway. No real regrets on this purchase.

The scope is fantastic and the clarity is amazing! It’s so good that my elder father-in-law wants to order one. Only thing stopping him is the cost of the scope now verses when I got mine. This is a great product.

It is a great scope especially for the money. Vortex has an unconventional guarantee. I own a lot of optics and this ranks right up there in my opinion. Very clear edge to edge and has very good light transition.

This is the second Vortex optic I’ve purchased and love both of them. The Viper has great clarity, eye relief, adjustments and is a solid piece equipment. Mounted on a .308 platform and rock solid after about 60 rounds. Hold is solid all the way through 16X.
