While I was preparing it for mounting onto my rifle and removing the screws holding the caps on, I felt a binding feeling removing several of the screws. I found the coating applied to the screws and threads was dis-bonding causing that rough binding feeling. I found this to be the case on three of the eight screws holding the caps on, and two of the four screws holding the base mounting clamps. Initially I thought the screws had been cross threaded from the factory. After running a tap through each of the screw holes and cleaned out the material that was flaking off, I installed the caps back on and ensured the screws would torque to the recommended specifications from Vortex without the threads failing. I was able to mount this onto my rifle and mount the scope without further issues. Considering this is the most expensive scope mount I have ever purchased, costing two times more than previous scope mounts I have purchased, I would expect a higher level of quality control out of the box. If it weren't for the fact that I have a metric tap set, there's a good chance I wouldn't have been able to clean the threads and would have caused further damage to the mount. I am happy with the product and feel it is the best fit for my AR-10 and Vortex Razor scope, BUT, I certainly expected better qualit...
