Being an avid whitetail Bowhunter I tagged along on a buddy's western mule deer rifle hunt last year in anticipation of my own rifle hunt I had coming up in 2020. On that first trip I quickly realized my range finder needed a serious upgrade from my current bowhunting set up. I'm comfortable rifle shooting range at an animal is around 400-500 yards max. I assumed the 1300 yard range finder would be adequate, so I went with the Vortex 1300. I just got back from my 2020 rifle hunt and cannot explain how disappointed I was in this range finder. After a week in varying field conditions trying to capture ranges, the farthest return I consistently got was 550 to 600 yards MAX. Worst thing was at the moment of truth with a nice buck at about 360 yards downhill with a hint of snow flurries it failed completely and wouldn't read at all. Extremely frustrating. Feel like I threw $300 down the drain. I can still use for Bowhunting and targets 100 yards and in behind the house but that's it. Now I feel like I have a 3rd range finder for bowhunting and I have to save up again and look at something over $1200 in a legacy brand to be worthwhile for rifle hunts.
Best Used for:
- Field conditions 300yards and less

Nice range finder that will hit small targets at long yardages. Only drawback I had was the illuminated red crosshairs are hard to see in bright light conditions. Dark background or shaded areas are great.

I was looking for a range finder to use for archery and rifle hunting. This does both with ease and I have the confidence that it will last me many years with the vortex warranty. The size fits well in hand pockets on jackets and it is light enough to forget it is there.

I was more than impressed by the quality and reliability of the Ranger 1300. I originally set out to get a lesser of a product but after speaking with customer service at Optics planet I decided to upgrade. I do not regret that decision at all. The red illuminated cross-hairs make it so much easier to acquire my target. So far I am a fan or Vortex and I plan to use their product and to go through Opticsplanet for all of my future purchases of gear.
Pros:
- Durability, reliability, accuracy
Cons:
- Price (but honestly, pretty cheap price considering the quality).

This replaced an aging Nikon 550. It was chosen for angle compensation, red display, better than standard warranty and reviews of being brighter than many others in similar price range. The range finder has a familiarization curve if you need to adjust settings but it should work for most people out of the box. It provides a clear picture and the display is easy to read in low light. It’s usability weakness is during very bright conditions the display can wash out to near unreadability and heavy snow cover will present ranging failures. Except for the two weakness I have discovered so far this unit appears to be a solid performer. I suspect it is going to be a great asset for the bow and rifle hunting usage I am most likely to use it in. Low light, extreme angles and occasion mid range targets to about 600 yards. I was unable to range anything past 475 yards on he last outing. I suspect this was due to snow cover on a bright day and the larger objects where likely at if not in excess of its maximum range.
Pros:
- Reasonably bright glass, easy to ready display in low light, Vortex WARRANTY
- Reasonably bright optics, easy to read display in low light, lifetime Warranty is better than the competition
Cons:
- Display can wash out in extremely bright conditions and heavy snow cover can make ranging target difficult to impossible, at least on clear days

Overall good product for the money and warranty. I decided to go with the leupold 1600 simply for the bullet drop (in, moa or mil) and windage calculations. Can’t go wrong either way...................................……
Pros:
- Price, warranty and exterior rubber coating
Cons:
- Not as many ballistic functions compared to leupold

I'm an archer and I've been using this mainly for ranging various 3d targets during tournaments. I haven't had the chance to take it out hunting yet, but it's been with me through rough conditions and has performed beautifully. Accurate, consistent, clear, and easy to use. Highly recommended.
Pros:
- durable
- easy to use
- light
- Clear

This is my first rangefinder. Since I'm getting ready to start precision shooting I needed something that's going to be accurate for 1000 yards plus ranging. So far I've been able to reach out to 800 yards with this rangefinder. Its rated to 1300 yards so I hope to be able to use it to its max one day. Easy to use and crystal clear glass.
Pros:
- Easy to use and crystal clear glass

This is most likely the best value for a rangefinder under the $400 price tag. Good optics, excellent menu options, and the multi-coated lens kept me with a clear sight when the temperatures dropped on a wet, and cold day. I have no problems ranging targets out to 1200+ yards with ease, and the bright led readout makes it quick to obtain the numbers I need to place an accurate shot down range. Vortex hit it out of the park for an inexpensive, accurate and easy to use rangefinder. The high quality of this rangefinder has me looking at Vortex for upgrading my old optics as well as the solution for my future optical needs.
Pros:
- Menu options
- Multi-coated lens
- Easy readout
- Long-range use
Cons:
- Difficult to use with bulky gloves
Best Used for:
- hunting
- Range use
- sighting in
- target practice
