Long Range
Purchased this on a sale from OpticsPlanet. I was originally debating between the Sig Kilo 2200 and the Vortex Ranger 1800. Both priced around the same with the Sig out performing the Vortex. Warranty is always a concern of mine so I am a fan of Vortex. But I did not want to sacrifice performance ...

Could be a lot better
What they don't tell you about this rangefinder is that the angular spread of the laser is fairly large, making it difficult to reliably measure small targets. Vortex doesn't provide a spec for the reticle size but I would guess it's around 30 MOA. If that's not enough of a problem, sometimes the ra...

vortex HD 4000 Rangefinder
I put my rangefinder to use the day after I received it. This rangefinder is easy to operate and functioned great for me on a side range that had no yardage reference. It was fast and the display was very visible to me. Handling this rangefinder felt like quality in hand, clear glass. I highly recommend this rangefinder to others.

Not good for close archery ranging needs
I must say that I could not been more disappointed in Vortex. I decided to buy the top of the line Razor model with the belief that it would perform better than the Viper, Diamondback, and older models like the Ranger 1800. I could not have been more wrong in regards to archery distance type ranging. It does amazing at longer distances, but does horrible at closer distances. I went to a 3D archery shoot last weekend and got to really use it for the first time since buying it. On the 4th target there was a deer setup behind some tall grass. You could clearly see the vitals, but there was a fair amount of grass in front of it. My wife used her Ranger1800 to range it at 38yards with no issues whatsoever. When I used this new Razor4000 it came back with a range of 25 yards, it was clearly picking up the grass and not the target. I then put the rangefinder in Last mode which is supposed to give you the range of the furthest object while scanning. No matter how many times I tried or where I moved the crosshairs on the target it came back with the same reading 25 yards. It simply was not capable of ranging the target through the grass. My wifes old Ranger1800 had zero issues seeing through the grass to the target. The long range capabilities of this rangefinder are impressive, but it comes at the cost of performing very poorly at closer distances when dealing with obstructions as minimal as blades of grass even when using the Last mode which is exactly what is meant to be...

Vortex Razor HD
The little that I have gotten to try it out has been very satisfying and impressive. As with all more advanced gadgets, there is a learning curve, but with practice I’m sure that my first impressions will be confirmed. The clarity and comparative accuracy of this rangefinder is proving to be all that is promised. It might be a little pricey, but it’s all in how much you demand from your gear!

BEST RANGEFINDER FOR THE MONEY
Until this purchase, I had not owned a Vortex optics product. This is my first. I was not disappointed. The picture is sharp and the ranging results are quick. I can range a deer out to 1800 yds. Further than I can ethically shoot. On top of that, the warranty is exceptional. You won't be sorry.

Great rangefinder
I have owned other brands of rangefinders, but this one is the best by far. Very good optic, and easy to use. I found myself using it to glass instead of my binoculars due to its compact size, and optic quality. Very pleased with my purchase!
