Michael's Review of Vortex Razor AMG UH-1 Gen II Holographic Sight
I know people complain about this optic but I don't know what their eyes are like or if they've used a holographic before. Those things do matter. I have mild astigmatism and I also own 2 of these UH-1s, buying another and 2 Eotech EXPS2/3s. Can I say it's better than an Eotech? No. Is the UH-1 a stellar optic? Yes. Is it cheaper than an Eotech? Yes, over $100 compared to EXPS3-0. Are there pros and cons compared to each other? Yes.
Eotech: clearer glass, cooler name, slightly more durable, better under night vision
Vortex: better reticule, longer battery life (maybe 10-15% longer), less money, better warranty, cooler looking (imo)
This isn't an Eotech killer. Just another quality option of optic and seeing there are really only 2 holographics on the market, I think this is a decent competitor. The glass is better on the Eotech and so is the refresh rate but that's an issue with all Vortex RDS products. The anodized coating does scuff a lot easier too which is one of my main complaints with the UH-1 not that I'm keeping it be pretty.
There seems to be camps that either love or hate this optic. I would recommend seeing one in person if you really have doubts but I buy a lot of Gucci-esqe kit and I continue to buy these UH-1s because I think they're great optics for the $500ish price range.
