Kn's Review of Vortex Razor HD Gen II 1-6x24mm Rifle Scope

First off I want to say that I really wanted to love this scope. From the features, to the amazing glass, to the beautiful finish and durability. But, there were seriousroblems with this product that caused me to not even mount it before I sent it back. First, the reticle illumination bleed into the crosshairs is one of the worst I have ever seen on a scope. Perhaps I received a defective one, but the red light from the dot could be seen all across the reticle. This is highly annoying, distracting. And just a sign of a cheap design. The second deal breaker is the weight. When you add a mount, this thing just ruins the balance of a lightweight ar. And third, the eye relief was so long that not even the farthest forward model from aero precision would push this scope enough forward for me to use it properly. Now admittedly, I was trained to shoot with nose on charging handle, but seriously! When will companies start to realize that these optics are going on an AR 90% of the time, and you don't need that much eye relief! Why is there such an industry in making cantilever scope mounts? How about just giving them a reasonable eye relief for an AR. Like an acog! Overall, I wanted to love this thing, but it just didn't work at all. I had to fight t o like it at all. And at the price, it wasn't impressive. Build it to work on an AR. Lighter weight, less eye relief. An integral mount, integral throw lever, and a more useful combat reticle and you'd have me sold. You'd have a vcog. Which is what I replaced this akward creature with.
Pros:
  • Looks cool
Cons:
  • Reticle light bleed worst ever
Best Used for:
  • Posing at 3 gun match
