Papertiger308's Review of Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56mm 34mm Tube First Focal Plane Rifle Scope

The Razor GEN II scopes are just great. This model can be compared to anything under $3k, you are not compromising anything on optical quality or features. Weight is the known hamstring of the GEN II Razors, but how important that is really depends on your type of shooting, as this was designed for tactical use.
FOV is excellent. Eyebox is excellent. Brightness is unmistakable. Resolution is right where you might expect it to be, very good but not quite as sharp as competitors such as the ATACR F-1 or K624i. Parallax adjustment is pretty true to the markings, but because this scope is so good at presenting a clean picture - it can be hard to tell when you have reached the optimal parallax setting - which is somewhat influenced by the lack of resolution when compared to other alpha class scopes.
Illumination is very good as well as the controls, the pull out locking mechanism is aces.
Turrets are stiff and positive, push-pull locking, & are very very good IMO.
The kicker for me is the reticle. The EBR-2C is absolutely aces. To get a ret this good with other MFG you often have to pay an extra $500 or more.
All things considered the GEN II Razor is competitively priced for the features and quality it presents. Yes it is heavy, and the resolution at long range does not quite measure up to other tier 1 scopes, but the Vortex outperforms anything in its' price point. Vortex continues to present great value to the consumer for the money invested.
Pros:

  • "mushy" parallax
