Mark Ingle's Review of Vortex Venom 1x26.5mm Red Dot Sight

The first time I live fire tested my brand new Vortex Venom, I found that the elevation adjustment was non-functional. So why would I rate it 5 stars? Because when I returned home from the range and called Vortex, their Customer Service put me through to Technical Support to make sure I wasn't missing something who then returned me to Customer Service to get my information to overnight ship a replacement unit. No waiting on hold, no questions, no BS...they immediately shipped a new unit that I received the next morning. The shipment included a return label for the defective optic to be returned at my convenience. The new optic has functioned perfectly through several 100 rounds, is very accurate, and has not needed any readjustments. I use the Venom on a 10/22 based rifle using all aftermarket ultra lightweight parts...4 lbs overall with a 16" barrel. So the lightweight Venom is a very compatible optic for my compact, lightweight rifle. Unlike some of the other Vortex red dots, the Venom has a top loading battery so it can remain mounted for battery changes and it doesn't have the annoying locking screws for windage and elevation adjustments. The Venom has a very low profile as well as the Picatinny adapter which works very well on my rifle. The unit comes with a two ended screw driver: the large end for replacing the battery cover or twisting the Pic rail bolt, and the small end for making sighting adjustments. It may seem like a small thing, but the adjustment screw driver is much easier to use on the tiny screws in a dimly lit shooting lane as opposed to the typical L shaped tool you get with most red dots.
Pros:
  • Compact, light, accurate, world class customer support
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Compact pistols, small caliber rifles for short to medium range
