First optic - Vortex Venom 1x26.5mm Red Dot Sight

Started having some age related vision issues with iron sights at IDPA matches and decided to give Red Dots a try. To test out the concept without having a slide cut our buying an optics ready pistol, I found an optics mount adapter plate for my Taurus TX22 (virtually the same dimensions as my CZ P10C) so I could run basic drills using existing equipment.

After researching the various red dots available at all price points I decided on the Vortex Venom as it seemed to check all the boxes for quality plus my needs and budget. The only negative I could find was the battery cover being difficult to install which I had no issues with at all. Optics Planet had a very competitive price and with my OP bucks and free 2 day shipping, it was the best deal out there.

Once I got it sighted in, my groups at all distances were excellent. It’s going to take some practice to learn how to quickly pick up the dot but don’t think it’s going to take much effort at all. Dot is clear in various light situations using auto mode.

One unexpected benefit: I was able to pick up target and get accurate hits with both eyes open, something I was never able to do with iron sights.
