Most Helpful Positive Review Huge Improvement
My eyes aren’t what they used to be. This improved my shooting. I like how bright the tritium dot is in low light. The fit was tight, but I was able to tap it in with a rubber mallet. I then was able to drill a 1/16” hole in the sight and reuse the original pin.

XS-Standard dot .38 bodyguard revolver

by Rooster, from GA, United States Written on December 3, 2020
It was worth every dollar. I had the old sight out and the new XS sight in within five minutes.I went with the regular dot instead of the large dot because it fit the rear sight frame perfectly when aligning the sights. It is a significant improvement over the factory sight.
Pros:
  • much easier to see
  • Much easier to see.
Cons:
  • A tad pricey
Best Used for:
  • CQB shooting

XS Big Dot for J Frame & SP101

by hoosier, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on May 1, 2018
This is the best sight that I have found for the J Frame and SP101 snubby revolvers. Visible night or day. Need to stone a little off each side so that it fits into the groove, then drill through existing holes (and the sight in the middle) with a 1/8" drill bit (a Dremel works). Stones and drill bits available at hardware store or on Amazon - you'll also need a 1/16" punch for the roll pin.

Takes a little skill to install, but any competent DIY person will manage it. YouTube videos show you how.

Should last a lifetime, though the tritium part will be dim after 10yrs or so.

Follow the aiming instructions provided and you can shoot surprisingly accurately at any practical distance.
Pros:
  • Accurate
  • High quality
  • Robust
  • High visibility
  • Rapid sight acquisition
Cons:
  • Fiddly installation, but no way around that.
  • Tritium dims after 10 years
Best Used for:
  • Self defense in all light conditions

Glowing report . . . .

by Lawrence Thomas, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on April 9, 2018
Standard dot appears best for SP101's milled rear sight channels. But BIG dot is fine also. The tritium dot itself is same size on both standard dot and big dot.

Install tip: scotch tape sight in place. Mark both sides of sight by inserting sharp instrument such as 1 16th drill bit into roll pin holes from both sides. Remove sight to drill, do not use roll pin holes as drill bit guide because it can ream out the holes and make them too big for roll pin to fit securely.

After drilling sight, put protective scotch tape on area to prevent marring. With leather protection in jaws of common pliers, sight can be pressed in, instead of punched in.

If this sight really glows 10 to 12 yrs it may well outlast me.
Pros:
  • bright
Cons:
  • Need drill press
Best Used for:
  • SP101 or S and W J frame

Just what was needed

by Tim Case, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on December 20, 2017
I didn't think it would happen to me but I was wrong. As I grew older it becomes harder and harder to pickup the front sight on my revolvers. My search for a replacement to the standard factory front sight lead me to the XS sight system. The results were simply amazing. I now have a sure sight picture again, both in day light and at night.

Now, understand this sight is NOT for target shooting but is designed to get you on target and to center of mass in a hurry. The sight is relatively easy to install, but if it to be on a revolver with a pinned front sight, it will take a specialized drill bit and punch. As such, it is probably cheaper to have it installed by a competent gunsmith.

Whether you install the sight yourself or you have it done for you, it will make a difference in how quickly you can get on target and that is the whole object behind any sight system.
Pros:
  • Very easy to see particulary at night
  • Not any higher then factory front sight
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Defensive or tactical shooting

XS front sight

by Mike, from SC, United States Written on May 1, 2017
Simple and easy to install. I installed this on an 870 in less than 5 mins. You need to go out and buy some JB weld for installation, and for the price I'd like to see XS provide a one time tube to make it an even better product. Holds up well.

Good replacement sight

by Jdaavis, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on January 27, 2017
Sight is the perfect size dot for my J-Frame 640 revolver. The dot fills the frame "U" notch making for quick and precise sight acquisition. I think that the "big dot" might have been too much. Installation is simple but, you will need a #54 (1.040 mm) drill bit to make the hole for the retaining roll pin. These tiny bits are fairly easy to break so, you might want to get some extra ones. I used a Dremel to dril the hole as it holds the tiny bit and is far easier to handle than a standard drill motor. Take your time and follow the instructions.

a MUST HAVE for an SP 101

by sel1005, from FL, United States Written on December 29, 2016
wow, what a difference this makes! standard SP 101 sights are tiny, nearly impossible to actually use unless you are out in bright sunlight. My eyes are not what they used to be anyway, and in low light, even indoor ranges or at home, it was impossible to really get a sight picture. This sight totally changes that, makes it easy to use and very quick to get on target. Highly recommended!
Pros:
  • Inexpensive
  • very visible
  • big improvement in using the gun
Cons:
  • have to drill out the pin hole
Best Used for:
  • anyone that owns an SP 101

Sp101 XS sight

by MSUDawg, from AL, United States Written on June 21, 2016
A huge improvement over the factory sight. The factory front blade sight was hard to see, even in the lighting at the indoor shooting range. These XS Sights made a huge difference. I have the XS Big Dots on my Glock also and love them.
