Most Helpful Positive Review Zeiss 6x18B pocket size monocular, precision instrument
You can't beat this precision, very small, compact, pocket size monocular for lens quality, razor sharpness, resolution, clarity, and colors fidelity. It's a pleasure just to hold it. It comes in a black soft leather zipper pouch, with a discrete and attractive two tone black and bluish grey neck strap. The push-pull focusing takes a bit getting used to, but is extremely precise. Pros: World famous lens quality, sharpness and resolution Cons: nothing against it

Good for macro views, not for birds or flying butterflies.

by BBFLY, from CA, United States Written on March 11, 2024
The monocular has a push-pull focusing and it is not easy to focus on things further than about 10 to 15 feet because. Specifically, without a wheel to adjust the focus it is hard to get precise focus unless focusing on a stationary object with two hands and a bit of hunting back-and-forth. By that time I have usually lost the thing that I am interested in looking at it: it usually has flown away. I cannot recommend this for looking at birds or even flying butterflies, although it did resolve very close, stationary objects, such as flowers and small insects well. Recommend for the latter use only.
Pros:
  • Very good macro views for up close objects.
Cons:
  • Focus is two handed only and after 15 feet there is very little adjustability to go all the way to infinity, this makes it very hard to focus on birds or even flying butterflies
  • Two handed focus. Edge sharpness not that great.
Best Used for:
  • Close inspection of stationary insects, flowers, or as one review or put it artwork and museum objects.

Excellent Quality at Great Price (almost as sharp as the more expensive Leica)

by TXBuyer, from TX, United States Written on March 16, 2018
I have owned this Zeiss 6X18B monoculars for 5 years now and recently purchased the Leica version as well. Both the Zeiss and Leica monoculars are excellent, but excel in different ways.

This Zeiss 6X18B is lightweight, sharp, compact. The high quality real-leather case is very compact and includes a neck lanyard. At first, I was concerned with the plastic construction of the housing; however, it remains in the same excellent condition as it was 5 years ago. Zeiss's leather case is made of heavy/medium weight leather and has a pebble pattern so it is not as easily scratched as the smooth leather of the bulky Leica case. The plastic Zeiss is much lighter than the all metal Leica. In addition, Zeiss warranties it for lifetime; however, I have yet to see how easy the claim process is. Please note that the focus is based on a pull/push system which is good and bad: once you master the technique, focusing is faster than Leica's turn knob system, but it is easier to bump the tube and lose focus again if you are not careful. The other thing that makes the Zeiss is defensive to the Leica version is that there it is not nitrogen filled, it is not weatherproof. I would not recommend using the Zeiss in the rain. The Zeiss is also much cheaper than the Leica as well. With all this said, why did I purchase the Leica after 5 years with the Zeiss?. . .the Leica is nitrogen filled and is sharper than the Zeiss. I plan to keep both and use them in different situations.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Size
  • Quality
Cons:
  • Not weather sealed
Best Used for:
  • Casual hiking, birding, glovebox spare
  • Tourist hiking
