Most Helpful Positive Review Zeiss D12 Hand Magnifier
I bought my mom the Zeiss D12 Hand Magnifier with AR (Anti-Reflective) coating, with the lens cover standard. She has 6-7 other magnifiers because of her poor vision (multitude of cornea replacements) The cheaper magnifiers work adequately for her, some even have lights to brighten what she is looking at. However, none of them are as clear as the Zeiss. The price of the Zeiss is high, but if you want to clearly see, without having to keep messing around and moving the height of the maagnifier or how far away your eyes are from the object you're trying to focus on, the Zeiss is worthwhile...ho...

Outstanding

The description of this item along with the rest of the line, could be better. The Diopter specification is more technical than magnifying power. Specifically it is 1/focal length in meters, for this lens, a bit over 3 inches an The image that it produces depends on two distances: object to lens and lens to eye. In general, this lens will provide 3X to 3.5X magnification. Higher magnifications result when the eye is about 10" from the lens. Holding that constant, magnification is based on the object to lens distance, but a particular distance will yield the best focus.
The bottom line is that the magnifier is comfortable to use, works far enough away from the object so as not to interfere with lighting and has a comfortable lens to eye distance.
Worth the money.
Pros:
  • Excellent Image Quality
  • usability
Cons:

Excellent Performance

I never had the chance to use a high quality magnifier until I bought this one. It is a pleasure to use, with a comfortable viewing distance that makes ordinary magnifiers seem like loupes. The resolution is excellent, revealing far more detail than a lesser lens with the same focal length (diopter = 1/focal length in meters).
