Snake Shot | 9mm, 38 Special, 45 ACP, and More Snake Shot from the Best Brands! 22 products / 22 models

Snake shot, aka rat shot, is a very specialized kind of ammunition with limited uses. However, it's very good at what's it's designed for: dispatching small pests and vermin at close ranges. Snake shot ammo is essentially a small shotshell designed for use in a rifled handgun or long gun. It is chambered in rimfire or pistol calibers and loaded with various grains of #12, #9, or #4 shot. Due to rifling, a much lower powder charge than a regular shotgun shell, and the small size of the shot, the effective range is only about 5 feet. The rifling is the biggest culprit, as it sends the shot spinning out like a sprinkler instead of keeping it in a tight group as a smoothbore shotgun does. Besides rimfire, you can find 9mm snake shot, 38 Special snake shot, and even 45 ACP snake shot. There are other popular handgun calibers like .44 Special and .45 Colt available, too. They really shine in revolvers and manual-action rifles, where jamming isn't really an issue.image

As the name implies, snake shot is most effective at close distances for snakes, rats, and small birds. They're not powerful enough for hunting or self-defense, only pest control. They're particularly useful in barns, warehouses, and similar indoor settings because they don't pack enough punch to penetrate walls like a regular bullet or shotgun shell would.
