I have a 1976 Colt Sporter AR15 A2 so no bayonet lug. Will it work on my rifle?

I bought it and it fits perfectly. I have the front sight but no bayonet lug. It has space for the lug but the luge doesn't need to be there to allow the rail to fit tight to the barrel. Great for my flashlight It goes on the left or right side of the barrel.

The mount itself is good. The split rings are supposed to be two different sizes to accomadate barrel diameter. Both split rings are almost the same. Outside diameters are the same as they should be. But... the inside diameters only vary by .005!!!! ...
