The design is actually a.22lr caliber mesh pistol, but due to its long barrel with a mock silencer, the GSG-16 falls into the class of self-loading rifles.

For left- and right-handed users, there is a double-sided MP-style cocking lever, magazine release lever and safety lever. The multi-stage adjustable sliding shaft can be equipped with an additional magazine for quick change thanks to the click-fix system. The Ghost Ring Sights are used for quick target acquisition when no optics have been installed.

Five Picatinny rails allow for the attachment of various accessories of all kinds. An M-LOK® system is located under the Picatinny rails on the fore-end, allowing the weapon to be guided without rails while also being individually equipped with accessories. The two-stage metal trigger is adjustable and perfectly matched to the 110-round drum magazine available as an accessory.

The receiver and trigger housing are made of high-strength, fiberglass-reinforced plastic. This gives the shooter an extremely robust and guiding weapon.
