For the price, it's hard to beat this scope, and the breadth of features it manages to pack into a comparably small and sturdy chassis are downright impressive.
That being said, this is a decidedly entry level scope where quality is concerned. After roughly three months of use my scope abruptly powered down and would not restart. The folks at ATN generously allowed me to mail it to California (at my expense) so they could diagnose and hopefully fix the problem. As of today, it is still undergoing repairs.
But let's talk about the scope.
The trouble began when I first received the scope. Though it was packaged quite well (thanks Optics Planet) I was immediately concerned to see that the included "soft carrying case" was little more than a thin cloth satchel, the type you'd get as a promotional handout at a convention. Not the thing you'd feel comfortable carrying around your two and a half thousand dollar optic inside.
Furthermore, the serial number, a critical piece of information for warranty purposes on any high-end device, is printed on a sticker that is adhered to the bottom of the scope-not engraved as one would assume. When considering the price paid for this piece of hardware, this concerned me greatly. My concerns were confirmed when after three weeks of moderate use, the serial number had been completely rubbed off the sticker.
So that was my initial opinion, but of course I have to give credit to what this scope does best- thermal imaging.
