Most Helpful Positive Review Eotech 558
I would recommend the Eotech 558 holographic sight. I prefer this because it uses AA batteries that are available everywhere. Sometimes the CR123 batteries can be hard to find. An added feature of this sight is the ability to replace the stock battery cover with the optional single or duel laser ...

Most Helpful Negative Review Great - unless it overheats and shuts off
If you are using this for hunting only I would give this 5 stars. If you put 30 or more rounds thru your barrel and your AR15 gets hot this style Eotech automatically shuts off. It turns right on again, but obviously if you were ever in a shooting competition or another scenario in which seconds mat...

Nice sight

by Dotson, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on July 9, 2024
This sight works well and it is easy to acquire a sight picture. The seven yard hold on the lower edge of the reticle ring is exactly what is needed in a close quarters situation. At 1x, this is not a long distance sight, but works well for the types of targets that would be engaged at close quarters (marauding coyotes, groundhogs, and the like).
Pros:
  • Fast Target Acquisition
  • Good sight picture & accuracy
  • commonly available batteries
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Livestock protection

requires far sighted or perfect vision

by Ur Moma, from TX, United States Written on March 6, 2023
The optic will quickly show you if you have near sighted vision. From using computers my phones, I have never been a fan of glasses, but currently I am using +1.25 computer blue light filter glasses to help my -1.50 nearsighted vision.

Best way to describe the optic is a fuzzy doughnut, it looks like I am focusing on an object less than a foot away or my hand in front of the optic with my nearsighted vision.

With corrected glasses the optic is extremely crisp and bright. It’s literally a laser shinning into your eyes. This optic is the best for night vision. Has multiple day and night vision settings.

The optic will eat away alkaline batteries, leaving its corrosive acid if you do not take them out. Probably better with lithium or Ni-Cd reachable batteries. This will happen after weeks or under 3 months if left alone.

AA are more plentiful and why I went with this model. The QD system is robust, but possibly wanting the Unity Fast Riser with the flip-up magnifier would make it less desirable. I had no problem with the optic turning off with recoil or shifting.

The main housing is actually a combination of durable black plastic and aluminium.

Holographic sights are the best for fast shooting times, but with my eye vision I am looking into the VCOG or ACOG or Accupoint from Trijicon with fiber optics.

Personally wanting Meprolight M21 fiber optic red dot in the future. Not requiring electronic or batteries and technically always on.

Highly recommend visiting gu...

EOTech Model 558

by Cozborn, Verified Owner from MS, United States Written on July 19, 2020
Best optic I have ever used, I got exactly what I paid for and more. My EOTech was very easy to use and came with great instructions. It was very easy for me to register my Eotech online. There was only two little things I wish EOTech would do and that is make the 558 model just a little slimmer and make it where you can save your brightness settings. It hangs over the sides of my gun alittle more than I would like but I’m also a very picky person so others may not mind. It pretty much came close to zeroed at 100 yards out of the box, I had to make very very minor adjustments. Once I let my friends shoot my AR with my EOTech two of them decided to buy one with a magnifier the next day.

Danny from Florida

I'm extremely satisfied with the EOTech 558. It's great that you can shoot with both eyes open and it has twenty brightness level for daytime shooting. Also it is night vision compatible. I would definitely recommend this product.

Thermal Drift is very real.

by Dave, from SD, United States Written on December 26, 2018
The sight experiences thermal drift. I did not know that this happens until after purchasing the sight and after hearing it could not believe it was that bad. It is very bad if you sight the summer then use it in the winter it will be off by inches at a 100 yards. Went shooting in July and the sight was dead on. Come winter I went shooting and it was 30 F and it was sighted in left 3 inches and low 2 inches. I can not understand how EO Tech is still in business. The drift is very real and very large.
Pros:
  • easy to use.
Cons:
  • Easy to loose zero.
Best Used for:
  • On your enemies rifle.

EOTech 558

by Rob, from FL, United States Written on July 7, 2017
I'm sure that this is a great sight once you get used to it. I find I'm not very accurate with it even after zeroing. I'm accustomed to trijicon acog and rmr. I'm sure with some time I will get used to it. Build quality is excellent.

Worth the money

by Taz, from IN, United States Written on January 15, 2017
This is a rugged and well built unit. I like the standard AA batteries also. Has multiple brightness settings. There will be no problems seeing the dot even in the brightest settings. I will be pairing it with the G33 magnifier.

Quick access

by Christos, from MN, United States Written on December 16, 2015
I've used earlier models of EOTech's with the NV/On/Off button on the rear of the unit throughout my military career.. I like the new placement on the support hand side making it quick and easy to lighten/brighten while still in a good shooting position. If you have flip up sights tight against it too this will make it that much easier to adjust brightness and or turn on/off.
Pros:
  • on/off push button
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • recreational shooting

Good Sight

by centerfire301, from MD, United States Written on January 5, 2015
This is a very good sight. The only problem with it is turning it off. If you have big hands and fingers the button to power down is hard to push. The first EOTech I received I sent back because I could not turn it off. I called the company when the second one had the same problem. This info should be in the instructions.
Pros:
  • Fast Target Aquisition
Cons:
  • hard to turn off
