The Leupold VX-6HD 2-12x42mm Rifle Scope could be used to hog hunt. If you are looking for another option for a scope that has a lower minimum magnification with a 50mm objective lens, the scope at the link below is a 1.8-14x50mm scope.

I have the vx-6. very hard to turn ring to change magnification. ss#395979Y. The scope is 8 years old. Any advice what to do. I own 2 other Leupolds . Expert Answer

Quickly change the magnificaton of this Leupold 2-12x42mm Waterproof Rifle Scope with the built-in ambidextrous reversible throw lever. The Zero lock windage adjustment ensures your scope isn't the victim of unintended adjustments and promises an accurate return to zero every time. Plus, the Twilight Max HD Light Management System boasts maximum light transmission and glare management that give you premium resolution and clarity even at longer distances, which makes this the perfect scope for hunting purposes. Equip the Leupold VX-6HD Aluminum Rifle Scope today for a top-of-the-line piece of glass that will help you bring home the bacon on your next hunting trip.

Every CDS model scope comes with a standard MOA or MIL dial right out of the box, so it's not a custom dial yet. To get yours, enter your ballistic information that can usually be found on your ammo box or the manufacturer's website and some of the environmental conditions where you'll be shooting the most, and we will laser-etch a new elevation dial to match. Once you receive the new dial in the mail, swap out the standard MOA or MIL dial, and you're good to go. The Custom Dial System® (CDS) ensures your scope is now perfectly tuned to the ballistics of your rifle.

Fully understanding your ballistics can be intimidating. That's why the Leupold Custom Dial System® (CDS) laser-etches your scope's elevation dial to match your load, velocity, and conditions. All you do is range your target, turn the dial to that number, and aim dead on. No more holdovers, bullet drop reticles, or ballistic calculators. Just quick, accurate shots every time.

Features of Leupold VX-6HD 2-12x42mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, Second Focal Plane:

  • Features proprietary Argon/Krypton gas blend, which nearly eliminates the effects of thermal shock, and reduces the diffusion of gases sealed inside your scope even more than our proven nitrogen technology already does.
  • 30mm maintube offers incredible strength and allows for the greater range of windage and elevation adjustment.
  • Crafted from 6061-T6 aircraft quality aluminum.
  • Powerful 6:1 zoom ratio delivers crystal clear images from edge-to-edge throughout the entire magnification range, and the Twin Bias Spring Erector System features berylium/copper alloy leaf springs and 30% more holding force to withstand the most intense recoil and abuse.
  • The CDS-ZL2 elevation adjustment dials easily for quick sight-in and to set for target ranges. Press the ZeroLock button to release and dial as much as 38MOA elevation. Dial back to zero and the lock snaps back into place automatically, ensuring correct re-zero and that the dial cannot accidentally move.
  • Get on target faster so you can take the shot of a lifetime. Even at higher powers, the longer eye relief and generous eyebox provides incredible head position latitude, edge-to-edge brightness, and a full clear sight picture that fills the eyepiece completely.
  • Guard-Ion rain shedding coating is extremely durable, scratch resistant, and sheds water, dirt, and fingerprints.
  • Proprietary MST (Motion Sensor Technology) automatically deactivates illumination after 5 minutes of inactivity, yet reactivates instantly as soon as any movement is detected.
  • One button brightness control with a high/low indicator keeps it simple.
  • Reversible throw lever clamps onto VX-6HD power selector to provide leverage for fast magnification changes, left or right handed.
  • Twilight Max Light Management System. Light management means delivering usable light to your eye and forming a crisp, high contrasting image. Lens coatings are applied that maximize light transmission in blue and red, and balancing colors to develop the highest possible contrast. Glare is controlled with special mechanical structures. This means you can see antler tines in dark shadows long after the competition has gone home.
  • Twin bias spring erector system exerts up to 30 percent more holding force on the erector, virtually eliminating erector system backlash and stress on the vital internal workings of the scope, for longer life.
  • Zero Lock Windage Adjustment prevents unintended adjustments and ensures an accurate return to zero. Fast and easy to use.
