This will shoot .223 as well as the 5.56?

Yes. The upper receiver does not determine the exact caliber, that is determined by the internals/barrel. As long as this is built out for a 5.56 NATO or .223 Wylde, it will shoot .223 Remington with no problems.

Yes, both of these will have the Spike's Spider logo on top at the end of the picatinny rail over the charging handle.

Yes, as long as you use the right barrel nut, and the hand guard would be based on if you’re going to use a rail or a mill spec heat shield.

The Spikes Tactical M4 Flat Top Upper does not include a barrel nut but will be compatible with standard Mil-spec AR15 barrel nuts.

The Spikes Tactical M4 Flat Top Upper is not caliber specific. It can be used for a 300 Blackout pistol build as long as you use a 300 Blackout barrel.

Will the upper w/out forward assist work for side charger?

That depends entirely on the side charging set up. Most side charging uppers have an extended cut on the ejection port to accommodate the charging of the bolt carrier group. If you have a side charging bolt carrier group that only requires the length of the ejection port to cycle the firearm, then it should likely work, but again it is entirely dependent on what set up you are using. I would recommend you confirm compatibility with the manufacturer of your side charging set up.
