I understand the use of the basic plate with the dovetail, but what is the function of the second, thinner plate I see next to it in some pictures?

The second smaller plate is known as a sealing plate. It is used when mounting an RMR optic to a slide or adapter plate to protect the exposed battery and electronics on the underside of the optic.

Does the mount fit a Gen 3 Glock 20SF?

Yes. The Trijicon Fits Glock RMR Pistol Mount is compatible with all Glock handguns (with the exception of MOS models). It will replace your rear sight and allow you to mount any optic that uses the Trijicon RMR mounting footprint. It also includes hardware to install your optic.

Will this fit a Glock 17 gen 5 MOS?

No, it will not, the rm44 is designed to mount in the dovetail for the rear sight. Since you have an “MOS” Glock the slide is already cut to except a red dot. It is my understanding that all gen 5 mos Glocks come with 4 numbered mounting plates.

You do not need additional plates such as this one. You just need the 02 plate.
