Most Helpful Positive Review Reliability to max
This great product very reliable shoots great and feels smooth... instal is a little confusing but YouTube walk you threw it. I have used this on my 7.62x39 with no issues as well.... the negative my original barrel gas block shoulder measured a tiny bit to far for the rod, we’re talking less than 1...

Most Helpful Negative Review Not on a 10.5 pistol.
Short strokes (failed to pick up next round out of the magazine) 50% of the time even after I drilled out my gas port to Adams arms specifications. I then drilled to over their specifications and it still short stoked 10% of the time.

Save your money.

Just another gimmick part. You will jump through hoops to find obscure pieces that fit and it doesnt cycle. Bought a pistol and rifle length. Neither are reliable. Tried various combinations of common barrels and buffer springs. Not worth the dollars, effort or aggrivation. Support other than a few videos online has been non-existant. Don't expect any kind of reply from Adams.

Best short stroke piston system with the best warranty.

by Michael Esposito, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on October 3, 2023
I've owned an AA conversion since it's birth to the public. I recently upgraded my original pistol length 10" to a carbine length 10" barrel. I wanted a little more hand guard realestate for mounting accessories (Samson Evolution). Best decision I could have made. Runs like a champ. My last trip to the range had shooters extremely impressed by how quite the system ran with a suppressor. Even with a 10" barrel, this system enhanced the sound suppression capabilities with supersonic ammo. I have used almost every retrofit piston system that has been available on the market. Some good and some bad. Some you cant find anymore. But AA is always my first choice. The reliability, design simplicity, price point, warranty..... did I mention reliability? Second to none in regards to short stroke conversions. I have actually changed the religion of some of my DI enthusiast friends. After witnessing how clean, cool, and reliable AA actually is, and how my suppressed 10" out performed their DI carbines and rifles at the range, they all ordered kits for their firearms. No regrets. I will never go back to DI ARs.I own 3 ARs, all with AA pistons (10" carbine 5.56, 16" midlength 5.56, and 16" pistol length 300blk).
Pros:
  • Warranty
  • Simple & easy installation
  • Enhanced reliability
  • Enhanced suppression
  • Design simplicity
Cons:
  • Hand guard options
Best Used for:
  • target
  • Tactical use
  • Self / home defense

Not complete

by Stephen Skiver, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on December 21, 2022
Now I’m sure it will work once I get all the parts! Not OP fault but bolt spring is missing. Also if you get the pick version they no longer include parts that you need to complete the build. No end cap for your hand guard. I contacted Adam and although they did offer to send the spring informed me they no longer include the rest of the parts and you have to purchase them on a kit that should come complete. To be truthful their customer service is lacking big time you call they won’t answer you can email them but they are slow to respond! At your own risk

Decent product may require tweaks

by GW, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on December 1, 2022
Pretty decent set up and install. You will have to watch what handguard you use. Some free floats will not work due to barrel nut or if not exactly or under 9 inches for midlength. If using a two piece drop in you'll have to either trim up or order one of their end caps. Used a b5 drop in and had to trim up the ends to alow gas system to fit.
Pros:
  • Does it's job
Cons:
  • Minor Fitting

It's custom.

by Wes, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on December 1, 2021
The AR 15 was not designed or intended to run a piston. Which means every AR built with one is custom. A custom build will come with custom problems. Hand guard selection is tricky. Look on the Adams website for a full list of compatible handguards. An easy free float hand guard to slap right in is the Samson Evolution series. They utilize the mil spec barrel nut and are cake to install. Magpul makes a delta ring handguard that fits perfectly with this kit. I built a pistol upper with an Aero Precision Enhanced Gen 2 handguard. However, because the BAR barrel nut is taller than a milspec barrel nut you will have to mill out a recess for the rod bushing to rest in. For anyone utilizing this kit on a pistol length AR I suggest using the kit designed for the 300 AAC. After reading all the negative reviews I can honestly disregard all of them because of either installer error or someone not doing enough research for parts before deciding to build a "custom" firearm. I can't even shoot a GI AR anymore. I can't stand cleaning GI uppers. This AA piston kit delivers on it's promise of running 100% cleaner.
Pros:
  • Cleaner
  • No gas port on the bolt
Cons:
  • Research is needed before purchasing hand guard
  • Custom never means easier
Best Used for:
  • Suppressors
  • people who hate cleaning GI uppers

Smooth Shooter!

by Rob, from TX, United States Written on June 28, 2021
I now have two of these Conversion Kit's installed. The first one was a 6.5 Grendel, and the last one just a few day's ago is a .223/5.56. I love the way they both function. I have another that I want to convert, but it's a side charge handle 7.62x39. They are cleaner operating with lower Maintenance. I have caught wind that the USA Military is also going to go piston. They'll love it!

Great setup

by Sean, from WA, United States Written on May 4, 2021
I’ve been running an Adam’s arms piston on my primary AR for almost a decade and i love it. I’ve built three other Adam’s piston ARs and have had the best results with the mid length system; it’s been 100%. I haven’t quite got my rifle length build fully reliable as will short stroke some times. I run an anti tilt gas tube and have seen zero signs of wear.

High quality product

by manimal, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on July 31, 2020
I had been dreaming about owning a AR with the reliability of an AK fo a long time and now I feel like that dream has come true. It took a bit if time before I was able to find the model that I was looking for in stock but was worth every penny and second spent. I have put about 200 various loads through it and no issues. It runs binary without issues as well. The ability to switch between single shot, suppressed and full gas is a definite plus for me. The included bolt carrier is high quality and the adjustable Picatinny gas block is solid with a nice finish. The system keeps my rife cleaner for Much longer than before. I would recommend it to anyone that is looking to upgrade their rifles reliability and capability.
Pros:
  • relaible
  • Adjustable gas block
Cons:
  • None
