Most Helpful Positive Review Amazingly Accurate
This 1911 Target .22 LR Conversion Kit exceeded my expectations! The slide came with the Picatinny Rail Sight Shroud that allowed for a 2 MOA red dot to be installed. It was tested with five (5) brands of 22 Long Rifle using the high velocity spring that comes with the kit. The Winchester M22 provided the best reliability and group of 0.844" at 50-feet with a mean radius of 0.306". Although, not high velocity, the 42gr. Eley Semi-Auto Benchrest Auto functioned flawlessly with the high velocity spring and shot the lowest high velocity mean radius of 0.255" at 50-feet. After installing the s...

Tons of Fun!

by Matthew, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on June 11, 2025
I purchased this for plinking, practicing tactical (IPSC) shooting with failure to fire drills, and to let my 8 yr old son shoot it. The weight of the gun helps mitigate any snappy recoil some .22 conversion kits have, so it was easy for him to learn to shoot on. The primary firearm this will be used on is a Colt 1991A1 Series 80.

Most of my available ammo was specifically called out by AA as being incompatible with the conversion kit, but we went shooting anyway! I have 5 magazines (GSG M-1911) that functioned with my older 1911-22 conversion, so I took them along for the ride.

Ammo Used:
Federal Champion Copper Plated 36gn: Failure to cycle second round occasionally during the first 150 rounds, but then cycled flawlessly for a hundred rounds. Would occasionally fail to lock the slide back after last round. Pleasantly surprised since AA said Federal ammo won't work with this slide, and it's the bulk of what I have on hand.

Aguila Copper Plated High Velocity 40gn: Cycled flawlessly for 100+ rounds. Locked slide after last round.

Aguila Lead Standard Velocity 40gn: Cycled flawlessly for 50 rounds, but did not lock slide back after last round.

Federal Auto Match Target Grade Lead: Consistent failure to cycle. Would jam during mag changes when releasing the slide, then for every single shot fired after. Not surprising since they provide a giant yellow card that says Federal ammo won't work. Don't shoot this ammo and blame it on the slide!

The target mode...

Outstanding Value and Craftsmanship

by ANGTroop, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on May 9, 2025
I shoot Bullseye Pistol and picked this up for my wife to shoot as well. The quality for cost is impressive; no issues with higher velocity ammunition (I need to tune the pistol for SV ammo; which was expected). Installation on a Springfield Mil-Spec was easy with the clear instructions and was completed in only a couple minutes. The version I received is, in fact, a rail/iron sight combo model. Nice Kensight rear sight with rounded corners, complimented with a serrated front sight. Generous forward/aft slide serrations are of the perfect spacing and crisp but not painfully sharp; allows for positive control. Slide lock-back works great, thumb safety mates perfectly with slide cutout, and zero issues with the supplied magazine. Overall finish seems robust and pairs nicely with the Springfield frame. The supplied case is a fully functional soft case with handles, heavy-duty lockable zipper, exterior pouch, and cool vinyl patch stitched on (i.e. not just a cheap sleeve). Honestly for the pricepoint of what I paid for the Mil-Spec and this Advantage Arms conversion; I recommend this combination to any handgunner as you get a quality .45 and .22. Please get this, go to your local pistol range, join a Bullseye league and literally have a blast.

Good Kit for the Price

by Steve K, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on April 3, 2025
I bought this kit as a permanent upper for a 1911 lower. The piece works well with HV ammo with no failure to fire, stove piping, or any other malfunctions. It is made pretty well, but not as well or as pricy as my Marvel unit. It's good for plinking and practice.
Best Used for:
  • Plinking /non-competitive shooting

Very good Conversion with Excellent Red Dot sight stability

by Logger, from TX, United States Written on April 2, 2025
I purchased this to shoot in local two-gun 22LR matches where most of the competitors use Ruger Kark III or IV pistols. I win these matches about 1/4 of the time, but just want to shoot a real 1911.

Added this kit to a new Rock Island budget-priced 1911 and threw on an old C-More red dot sight. After running 150+ rounds of CCI Mini-Mags, it was shooting flawlessly.

Advantage Arms says not to use standard velocity, but after polishing the slide rails using fine valve grinding compound, it shoots CCI Standard Velocity. It is slightly more accurately than the Mark III, so the Advantage Arms barrel is obviously good.

Let's make winning fun again!!
Pros:
  • Great fit, inexpensive, accurate
Cons:
  • none so far
  • None so far, and i shoot about 1000 rounds a week
Best Used for:
  • Any Mil-spec 1911
  • Any Mil-spec 1911 frame

Kimber replacement

by Plinker, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on February 4, 2025
I purchased this to replace the upper on my Kimber .22 because of so many problems with failure to feed, stove pipe, and extract. I tried every type of ammo and nothing seemed to work consistently. A friend recommended trying the Advantage Arms Conversion and I am very happy at this point with its performance. So far none of the same repetitious problems with feeding etc. This upper was also reasonably priced.

Great addition to my Springfield 1911 .45ACP

by Tronchsr, from TN, United States Written on January 24, 2025
Accurate right out of the packaging. I was quite pleased to find it comes with its own case - a soft transport brief case with plenty of room and pockets. It was easy to read and follow the included instructions and it fit easily and perfectly on my Springfield Armory 1911. Although, I was unpleasantly surprised to find it has such a limited range of ammo that it will tolerate/fire - good thing I keep lots of various ammo types.

If there is one drawback to it, it is the exterior finishing lacks. The edges are sharp and rough, and after a day on the range my hands were sore and roughed up ... but "Hey, callouses are a good thing! Right?!!" The top of the slide/frame and the magazine have multiple sharp very pointed corners/edges. This is not as much a complaint as it is feedback!

Overall, still very pleased and looking forward to the inevitable development of callouses; because I love shooting this very accurate and well priced addition to my 1911!
Pros:
  • Accurate & Pleasing to Shoot
Cons:
  • FINICKY ABOUT AMMO
Best Used for:
  • Targets

Review of Advantage Arms 1911-T 22 Conversion Kit

by Johnny Mc, Verified Owner from MS, United States Written on November 6, 2024
I am most pleased with the fit and finish of this product. The slide fit right on my Series 80 Colt 1991-A1 perfectly. Initial firing and “break in” was performed with the recommended CCI mini-mags, and 150 rds fired with no failures to feed, fire, extract, and cycling was flawless. I am ready to proceed with an optic for these old eyes and the purchase of a reduced power recoil spring and better quality match ammo. I am very satisfied so far.
Pros:
  • Ease of installation, good fit and finish, came with optic rail
Cons:
  • Will require regular cleaning for good functioning
