Expert Review

Warning: If you buy this you won't be able to go back to other charging handles. (It's that good)

by Cal L, Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on November 17, 2016
I had wanted to go with a ambidextrous charging handle on my AR for a while. I wanted a latch that was large enough to easily work one handed (from either side), but wasn't obtrusive and going to catch on all the gear in the world. AXTS struck a great balance of size on this one. Handling is smooth and simple as it should be with the Freedom Bone Raptor in your AR. The limiting of gas to the shooters face is the icing on the cake.

I am rough on my gear. Despite mortaring out stuck casings and more than a fair share of abuse, the handle is is still arrow straight. I have managed to bend charging handles, even steel charging handles, so that is impressive to me. It is so impressive that I will be replacing all my charging handles with this one in the near future.

The Freedom Bone Raptor also looks badass, but I got it for it's functionality, not its looks. I was not disappointed!
Most Helpful Positive Review Simple yet effective
When running a suppressed upper, often there is the issue of gas blowback (especially without an adjustable gas block). While there are several options out there to address this issue, I have yet to find one as simple and affordable as the Freedom Bone (not to mention a pretty awesome name). You can buy and install an adjustable gas block, you can buy an adjustable BCG, you can even buy an adjustable upper receiver. All of those will cost more time and money than the Freedom Bone. This is a cost effective drop in solution to run a suppressor on a standard upper receiver. Much easier to ins...

Tactical look

Slides easily -with having less contact area with upper receiver it creates less drag friction. light weight -which can assist in keeping you sight picture / sight alignment longer. Please looks great for that tactical custom buld.

Nice Charger

by bob68507, from NE, United States Written on February 6, 2017
Seems very strong and easy to grip. Smooth operation. Large handle from left of right. Looks good. Fit like a glove with the bolt carrier. I would recommend for a new build or an upgrade. Like the color choices too.

Top of the Line Product!

by John Galt, from TX, United States Written on January 29, 2017
Added this to my AR15. Due to the close eye-relief on my ACOG (~2"), I needed a charging handle I could easily access up under the scope. This surpassed even my highest expectations! Now I'm ordering another one for my .300 Blkout. Shooting suppressed or not, I just can't go back to the standard handle.

...now, if AXTS only made one compatible with my DPMS AR10.
Pros:
  • easy to use
  • Looks amazing
  • Perfect drop-in fit
Cons:
  • MUST update my other AR's to this handle! ;)

Easy to use charging handle

by Robb, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on January 24, 2017
The charging handle has easy ambidextrous controls that can be manipulated without difficulty even with a large optic. I was slightly disappointed with the gas dispersion when used with an SBR 300 BLK and suppressor, but with a little more eye relief I was actually able to shoot without any perceptible blow back. I would recommend for all uses and on all gun barrel lengths.

Great product would recommend. Not inexpensive, you get what you pay for, quality and reliability!

by AKCQB, from AK, United States Written on January 23, 2017
I will say first off that since purchasing I have not had an opportunity to field use this product. However I am not unfamiliar with the operation of the item. It is well made and appears to be rugged with minimal flex. I have had issues in the past with charging handles striking my adjustable shoulder stock when in a collapsed position. I currently have BCM shoulder stock and this does not occur when test cycling. I attribute this to the rigidity of the product. Both the right and left releases work well and I have no concerns that I will not be able to cycle proficiently during training exercises. I am running this on a piston driven system and don't anticipate much blow back residue, but I am interested to see the results of how the porting works after a number of rounds have been fired. This in not my first AXTS product and if you are looking for quality and reliability then this is a product that you must consider to purchase if in the market.

Quality charging handle as to be expected. YES IT ACTUALLY DOES HELP TO RELIEVE SOME OF THE BLOW BACK WHEN RUNNING SUPPRESSED. Snag product when it was on sale but would definitely buy another! Don't hesitate on getting this charging handle, you will not regret it, plus the design is awesome!

Good to go!

by Stealth8, from CO, United States Written on January 2, 2017
Just as described, can't complain. Light weight, haven't used it yet. But, I imagine it's just like their other charging handle. Fit perfect into receiver, and no problem with bolt. Meshed together perfectly.

Looks as good as it functions

by Orsky, from KS, United States Written on January 2, 2017
Great charging handle! As a lefty, I love the look and feel of the handle. It has made shooting with an optic significantly more comfortable. I have not had the chance to try it with a suppressor yet, so I cannot comment on gas reduction.
Pros:
  • Smooth
  • Comforatble
Cons:
  • None

Freedom bone

by Danny, from TX, United States Written on December 23, 2016
The freedom bone works very well with my suppressed rifle. The ambidextrous handle is great for left handed operators. I would definitely recommend this to others to use on their rifles. The longer charging handle makes it easier to grasp inder stress and makes it easy enough to just use a bladed hand if you have to.
Pros:
  • Ambidextrious
Cons:
  • None
