Most Helpful Positive Review Have purchased several.
After many years of building, I have failed to appreciate the mil spec mag catch that comes in most lower parts kits. I've had some break, be broken out of the box, rust, rough threading, and so on. Plus, if you like using billet mag release buttons that dont thread all the way through, the standard...

Most Helpful Negative Review Just average
The magazine catch is shorter than the milspec one. Not worth it. Color is ok but i feel battle arms is lacking in qc these days. I have some good experience w some of their products and several bad ones w safeties and this mag catch.

Works and looks good but adds slop.

by Dante Calabrese, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on November 3, 2025
This release looks really nice. It does function as it’s suppose to but it adds wobble slop to my magazine button. I assume this is because the post is shorter (as stated). I do like it & it is quality but my OCD hates the slop.
Pros:
  • Fit & finish is good
Cons:
  • Adds button slop

Looks Great. 'Me Blunder is Bissin'

by Salt, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on June 4, 2024
I use these on any build that I don't use ambidextrous magazine releases on. They match well with dimpled take down pins. (The ones with the indentions to push them out with a bullet tip) For eight and a halved Pieces of Eight would recommend for anye me mates blunderbuss'
Pros:
  • Looks Great but still cheap.
Cons:
  • None (Cloaking device not included)
Best Used for:
  • AR-15 magazine release.

Looks different and works

by Polux, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on April 20, 2024
This magazine catch works well, not rocket science, and looks different. I wanted to customize my build with a set of lower parts that were different than mil-spec so I chose this one. The looks are good but the overall size of the part is smaller than mil-spec. I installed it, and after my bolt catch was in I decided it did not look right, so I took it all off and started fresh with a mil-spec catch (PIA to remove the bolt catch and risk of marring my receiver, which I did). The mils-spec part looks are just ok but the part fills the entire cavity leaving no gaps, whereas the BAD one is a bit recessed and smaller. Function of both parts was adequate and after debating looks went back to the Battle Arms one. So keep this in mind. Also the lower was an Aero Precision.
Pros:
  • looks different
Cons:
  • Smaller, bit recessed vs mil-spec
Best Used for:
  • Customizing

THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE MIL-SPEC... IT'S SHORT ON PURPOSE

by JosephFix, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on April 19, 2023
The negative reviews on this piece seem to revolve around it being shorter than Mil-Spec. That is the point. This mag catch is made for larger or blind-hole buttons like Forward Controls EMR-HC, etc. to ensure that they don't protrude over the fence. It will pull the button in tighter so do not use this with a standard button unless you want it recessed very tight.
Pros:
  • Solid, short, well-priced
Cons:
  • Not digging the grove on the bar, looks like a gunk collector
Best Used for:
  • Blind hole buttons
Would recommend: Yes

nice upgrade

by Shane P., Verified Owner from IA, United States Written on March 25, 2021
Not an absolutely necessary item, but makes a nice inexpensive upgrade for your lower receiver. Adds a little flair and gives a billeted look to your mag catch. I was always a little annoyed by having a nice looking receiver with a dull phosphate section where the mag catch was but it wasn’t that big of a deal. When upgrading to a custom billet set, the dull phosphate catch stuck out big time. I found this guy and installed it and couldn’t be happier. Functions as expected and looks way better.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Looks & functional
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • OCD gun owners

BAD enhanced mag catch

by Mariob909, from TX, United States Written on March 20, 2021
Looks good, works good, built good, I have put these on a couple rifles and it's worth the upgrade from standard mil spec, it's actually cheaper then mil spec and seems to be made better. The shorter length also good for using with odin works mag releases.

Nice Solid Release, Nice Aesthetic twist

by DanJM, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on March 4, 2021
Honestly, not much to say on this aside from this is a very nice and high quality mag release.
It does exactly what it needs to, and the little slot machined out of the side adds just a little visual interest to it as well (and possibly the slightest of weight savings).

Good part
Pros:
  • Solid well built
  • Aesthetic
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Tactcal
  • Home defense
  • Target shooting

Not really milspec

by gordon liddy, Verified Owner from SD, United States Written on January 23, 2021
This is not a milsepc part like it says in the description. It is shorter than milspec and most likely will work well with the battle arms development magazine button due to theirs being a blind hole. Overall it has a nice finish and the price is better than milspec ones.
Pros:
  • Finish is nice, looks cool
Cons:
  • not milspec length
Would recommend: No

nice upgrade

by timothy, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on January 16, 2021
This is a great product if you combine this with a spring and a billet mag button, you will have an amazing setup that looks great and is very light weight, and you are only about $18 out the door for a good upgrade for function and increased aesthetics

Great Mag Catch

by Pete, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on December 21, 2020
Never thought a great deal about changing the mag catch out but do like the finish of these mag catches. It goes well with the AERO receiver finish. These are a must if you use the Battle Arms Development mag catch button since these have the shorter length. Have both the FDE, which has the better feel, and the black anodized button. Looks good and find mag release operation slightly improved.
Pros:
  • Finish , feel and funstions as it should
Cons:
  • None
