Most Helpful Negative Review No go and non Starter!!
I give it one star for design intent. I ordered one. It was intermittent and red dot went off at impulse of dry firing the rifle and again when charging rifle. It was just also random. I returned it via Optics planet nice return system. I got a second one. Same thing... randomly goes on and off...

Not hard to kill

by journeyoffire, from MT, United States Written on February 10, 2021
Bought one of these when they were first on the market, and now years later it just doesn't turn on anymore. The Dot was never vary crisp, but what can you expect for the money. It will eat batteries up like crazy, but yet again for the price. The disappointment is mine has an easy life, jumping onto different rifles and being stored not in use. The accumulation of rounds through a rifle with this dot mounted definitely not near 1000. If you are considering buying this optic, I suggest you pass and go with something more noted.
Pros:
  • Cheap
  • AAA Battery
Cons:
  • Battery Life
  • weak
  • Dot
Best Used for:
  • Looks
  • Trash can

Spider Red Dot Optic

by Patrick H, from AR, United States Written on January 29, 2021
I love this optic! Great price! It has taken loads of abuse, and the water resistance is great. I didn’t say waterproof!! Extremely bright and so easy to use a Marine could do it after he or she eats a 12 pack of crayons. Once the optic is mounted the optic center sits 38.5 mm so keep that in mind if you are going to use a optic magnifier. Also I absolutely love that it uses a single AAA battery and I don’t have to go searching local stores or the web for a special battery. I absolutely recommend this Optic to anyone! Semper Fi!!
Pros:
  • Battery Option
  • Battery AAA
Cons:
  • Optic Center height 38.5. I wish it was a little lower.
Best Used for:
  • AR-15 & AR-10

Black Spider Optics M0129 Micro Red Dot Sight, 3 MOA

by Mel, from MO, United States Written on November 23, 2020
This the second Black Spider MO 129. I have had on on a 1022 for years. Always works. Installed my new one on a AR Pistol. I had a little trouble with the mount but a email to support told me what to do.
Was on target when I first shot it no adjustment needed.

I love the triple A battery. The battery in my first one never failed. I Just decided to change it after a few years.

YOU WILL LOVE IT.
Pros:
  • Triple A Battery.
Cons:
  • None

Excellent Optic for the Money

by Tom, Verified Owner from KY, United States Written on October 12, 2020
+ I have purchased two of these optics, and one for my father.
+ The build quality is excellent.
+ Very rugged.
+ There are two mounts/bases available a low and a high. The short is great for general use. The tall mount is standard height that accommodates AR magnifiers (Holo-Sun, Vortex, etc...)
+++ I was a NinComPoop and ordered the short base by accident from another site. At the time the optics were still very new and Black Spider was marketing the bases by themselves. I contacted Cole Leleux and he sent me the appropriate mount for a few bucks. Excellent customer service.
+ Battery life is more than adequate with lithium AAA's.
- In low light the dot does have the potential to have a starburst or halo effect.
(meh) In normal light it is fine.
- This optic would be much better in 25mm - 30mm (Spikes ... are you listening? It's 2020 we likes'em thicccc)
+ I have not been kind to these optics either. They have taken a beating in the back of a side by side, a truck, hanging from a tractor seat, many trips to the range, and I have yet to lose zero.
+ I have good success using loctite OR heavy grease on the threads (with proper torque) and have never had one fall off. Generally I would recommend loctite for a permanent fixture, and heavy grease if you're going to be fiddling and tinkering. Adjustments are simple.
= Scope caps are small and black so they can be lost. Get yourself a magnet bowl or equivalent.
+ (flathead) slotted screwdriver, the adjustmen...

Pros:
  • Rugged and reliable
  • Excellent value and customer service.
  • Battery Life and Availability
Cons:
  • needs to be thicker ... thicc
  • Dot is a little distorted in low light. Not much+
Best Used for:
  • Anything with a picatinny rail relatively short range without a magnifier.

The Absolute Best Budget Optic

by Bobby, from TX, United States Written on August 20, 2020
This is the best budget optic money can buy. I own several & one even crowns my favorite plinker, a Ruger 10/22 synthetic. Why? Well #1 it's a Spike's Tactical offshoot brand. If you don't know what Spike's is you don't need one of these. Spike's ain't into stuff that doesn't work. And that is what sold me on the first one. #2 They have a sound design for attachment, (looking at you Sig & Holosun). It's not a long eye relief scope at 3 MOA but that's part of the bargain. #3 It's virtually indestructible. Watch some YouTube videos. I'm pretty mean to my Franky M-4 build when I can't shoot straight and I will tell you it will hold zero 'til you destroy it. #4 It uses the ubiquitous AAA battery. Try finding one of those alphabet batteries when caca hits the fan. #5 It's a ready to go 1/3 co-optic sight right out of the box. Not all of the dot scopes can claim that. Sight goes down? Flip up the iron sights and you are still in the fight with a fully functional weapon.
Downside? No shake to wake like a Sig. You have to push a button. The laser thingys that form the sight separate if you set your sight to long eye relief style. It's small at 20MM. I'd pay another bill for a 30MM.

Rifles it's currently on:
Spike's Crusader
Bushmaster M-4 Texas Edition
Franky (my prison punk favorite shooter made out of parts from everywhere)
Ruger 10/22 Synthetic (regular Black Spider optic w/o the 1/3 co-optic stand)
Pros:
  • Cheap
Cons:
  • No long eye relief
Best Used for:
  • Short range

Shot 30 rnds B4 the optic quit. Idk if it was a bad batch

by Barbatos, from AE, United States Written on June 7, 2020
I hope they see this.. i tried to get a replacement through the company themselves, to no avail. Mine is in 10/10 condition if you looked at it without a battery. Can DM Photos...To be honest I got played... they won't see this.. sorry but I'd recommend a Crimson Trace... or Even a Monstrum 3x over this thing..
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • My Optic Failed immediately

great bang for buck

by KamboRambo, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on March 25, 2019
I was hesitant on this red dot based off early reviews of it. I've run a lot of sub $200 red dots and you typical get what you pay for. great range use but get out in the rough stuff different story, I even managed to break an eotech 512. I will say that I put this on the level of a vortex Sparc, the original one. It works fine and holds zero. I have an astigmatism so all red dots without my glasses on, especially holographic sights, are blurry to me. I haven't really done any rough stuff with it but for the gun it goes on I only need it to be accurate out to 50 yards, and that gun seldom gets used outside of the range.

dime group at 50 and 100 yards

by zac, from AR, United States Written on April 10, 2017
An instructor buddy swears by this optic. He even competes with it. By no means am I a good shooter, but after a few minutes on range I hit a dime group at 50 and 100 yards (off the bench). Wasn't expecting those kind of groupings with a 3MOA dot.
Needless to say I'm a believer. Light weight, on point and can't beat the price.
Pros:
  • Price
  • accuracy
  • Weight
Cons:
  • None

Black Spider

Great optics great price. Liked not having a real expensive battery like some do. Rugged and accurate. Would recommend to anyone, would be nice if it had flip up lens covers. Even if it costed a little more.
