Very happy with the Axis! It is much easier to use than my old Brunton and the way the hinge works really makes it a piece of cake to measure all sorts of planar surfaces. Strike and dip are both measured together (fast!!!) Trend and plunge are also measured just as fast and there is no messing around with the tough to see bubble level on the inside and lever on the back because they aren't there - no need. It is easier to sight bearings too because you just look through the hole in the hinge rather than using the sight arm and mirror. It also fits on my tripod just like my old Brunton. I r...

Purchased this transit to use in the field this summer and can’t say how unbelievably happy I am with how fast it takes measurements on various rock surfaces. It still has all the trustworthiness of my old Brunton transits but I certainly will not go back to using my Geo or international. The Axis makes them seem outdated and obsolete! Pricey but worth every penny!!
Pros:
Very easy to use
quick measurements
Well built and precise
measures trend and plunge easily
Cons:
None
Best Used for:
Sighting
Structural measurements
surveying
Would recommend: Yes

My grandfather bought me an Axis earlier this summer and I can’t express how happy I am with it. It is very well built (quality I have come to expect with Brunton products) and makes measurements that were tricky or nearly impossible with my old Brunton very fast and easy. Strike and dip at the same time! Lineations/rake just as easy. It is definitely a huge advancement for transits and about time! Highly recommend! -Ben
