Bright and tough, just like the name says

Written on Jan 12, 2016

I prefer these to the Trijicon HD sights which I have on my S&W M&P, because these offer a crisp three-dot sight picture, day or night. These fit exactly as replacements for the polymer originals, but are clearly tougher metal. You'll need a thin-wall 3/16" socket to tighten the front sight, which has a very thin hex head in a very tight space. I used blue Locktite to keep it in place. The rear sight can be removed and replaced in seconds. You must take out the windage adjustment screw with reverse threads from the original rear sight and put it into the Trijicon rear sight before snapping the sight into place with the plunger pin built into the slide. I used a SightMark laser bore sight cartridge to align windage. This can be done at home by shooting the laser (carefully) across the desired distance, without wasting ammo. A quarter-turn tweak on the windage screw and I was done. Elevation was spot on. Between the easy-to-replace design of the PPQ and the solid three-dot sight picture of the Trijicon sight, this was the best sight replacement experience I've had.

Quality construction, but looses 3-dot sight picture in daylight

Written on Dec 23, 2015

These are obviously well-made and quite sturdy. The sight picture in the dark is three distinct green glowing dots. But be sure you realize that you loose the 3-dot sight picture in daylight because the rear tritium vials are not highlighted with paint and are not easy to see against the black metal mount. This does draw your focus properly to the front sight which IS highlighted, in bright orange or yellow. In daylight you use the U-shaped notch of the rear sight to center the view of the front dot. Many people like this arrangement. I am more used to the traditional 3-dot sight picture such as the stock sights on the M&Ps give. I bought two sets of these HD sights, one for my full-size M&P 40 and one set for my Walther PPQ Navy SD. I decided to keep the HD set for my M&P which is my "nightstand" home defense weapon. But I returned the HD sights for the PPQ and ordered Trijicon's Bright and Tough night sights for it. These present a highlighted 3-dot sight picture in daylight and the same green glowing 3-dot picture at night. Just make sure you know which style you are comfortable with ahead of time. BTW, it requires a heck of a pounding to get M&P sights off, and new ones back on. Several YouTube videos show this as easy. It may be on an older gun. On my relatively new M&Ps it was challenging. I have done it now for two M&Ps successfully using a disposable aluminum drift punch. If you are not comfortable with this step, you may want to let your gunsmith handle it. By contra

Works as advertised

Written on Sep 23, 2015

The Laserguard fits my S&W M&P 40 Compact like it is a part of the gun. Pressure sensitive switch button responds to even a light grip. I got a Crossbreed holster made with this Laserguard option and it fits very well. It's good to have the separate on-off switch so I can practice without draining the battery. This switch is very tiny and sits in a small depression in the bottom of the case to prevent accidental switching. My only concern is that this main switch is so very tiny that I wonder if it will last. Hopefully Crimson Trace designed it to last. Happy with purchase!
