I have long considered the Sightron S-Tac 4-20x50 to be the best value optic at under $500. I have several of them for a reason. This scope beats it in every category besides weight (this is a couple ounces heavier), and elevation adjustment range (Heras has 70 MOA, Sightron has 80). The glass is way ahead of any of my sub-$500 optics. Super bright and crisp images. Controls are super smooth, reticle is effective and uncomplicated but good for ranging and holding over. I prefer a floating dot and moa-based subtensions like this and the STac offer. The turrets can be reset to zero with just a coin or cartridge rim. Zero stop is not the most user friendly in the field, but at this price point it’s nice that it has one. Parallax knob focuses down to 7 yards. Included scope shade and pop up scope caps are nice quality. Zoom ring is low profile so it won’t interfere with a low mount. Included throw lever was unexpected and when mounted the zoom ring is flush with the ocular bell. Windage turret pulls to unlock, pushes in to lock. Turrets are nicely marked and large diameter for ease of use. Overall just a great scope. I’m still marveling at how nice the glass is. So very bright and with vivid color. This scope gets my recommendation at under $500 all day. My only possible detractor for a scope in this class is that the 1” tube may sacrifice some strength versus a 30mm tube. Optically it is incredible. It makes me reconsider what a 1” tube optic is capable of.
I have used Volquartsen triggers in my MK pistols in the past, and have found them to offer the same performance as this tandemkross trigger, but at alf the price. However, I have a MKIII 22/45 that does not allow replaceable grip panels. Because of this, the grip is way too skinny in both fore and aft measurements, as well as in width. It's easily the worst feeling grip of any full size pistol that I have ever held. This also means that the trigger reach is was too short with the factory trigger and the volquartsen trigger. I have XL hands and the original trigger lined up with the crease of my first nuckle. This Tandemkross trigger sits much further forward and helps significantly with trigger reach. The propfile is straight, and wide, and the adjustment screws do what they should do concerning overtravel and pretravel minimization. Be aware that you will need thread locker like loc-tite blue because the adjustment screws are very loose in the threads. I removed one star because of this sloppy screw fit and because the trigger is $50 for just a trigger shoe. It feels like a $25-$35 part at most. It will not do anything to change your break weight, so you will still need parts like a sear and hammer, or to do a traditional trigger job on your factory parts. All in all, I am satisfied with this trigger, though I feel it is overpriced by a significant margin.
The Good: Great fit to the action and bedding system is strong. Excellent fit and finish. Relatively lightweight for a chassis, which helps with balance. Some improvement in accuracy vs the plastic oem stock.
The Bad: Length of pull is very short even with all the spacers installed. About the same as an A1 stock. Feeding is less reliable than in the oem stock with rotary magazines. I am using a Magpul AICS magazine. Rounds occassionally ram into the breech face instead of the chamber.
Personal preference issue: This chassis will not accomodate a grip with a beavertail. I only run grips with beavertails on my other rifles and I dislike how far my hand can slide up the grips without them.
Final Thoughts: This chassis performs well where it counts. It's lightweight, rock-solid, improves accuracy and converts the action to AICS magazines. There will probably be some magazine tuning involved, and you may not the chassis to fit you as a shooter without some tweaks, but for the price the performance is all there.
