Good slide, coating is thick.

Written on May 01, 2024

I like the slide, it assembled pretty easily. The missing star is due the fact that in some places the coating is quite thick, I had to sand down some areas to get the parts to fit without binding. During break-in there was a lot of rubbing until the coating was taken down a bit and all part wore together.

The orange has a tad more 'pink' in it than the picture shows but I still like it; it's a more mellow orange camo vs vibrant camo.

Functions, but needed help.

Written on Nov 29, 2021

I got this to match the other orange parts on my build. Color matched the other Timber Creek parts well and the tube itself works. Now for my 1-star reduction: the threads were not correct. I had to file the first 1/4 of the first thread because it wouldn’t engage with the receiver. It was as if the first thread got smashed or something. Once fixed, it took to line and careful turning to get the tube into the receiver but it fit and is solid. It functions just fine. Side note, my SBA3 brace is very loose, not sure it it’s this tube or not.

Seemed OK, had issues during range session

Written on Mar 03, 2020

I put this on my 300 blackout pistol build and it all went well until I got to the range. The gas key on the BCG got jammed on the gas tube and would not go into battery. I took everything apart and filed/cleaned up the end of the gas tube and gas key but it jammed again. Maybe the first time bent the tube, I'm not sure. Either way, this is now in the garbage and a new tube is on order.

I can't say for sure the gas tube was defective but the build worked with a different gas tube, I then changed to this one (silver vs black) and had issues. Aero usually has quality stuff so I think this may have been a fluke or was the result of my assembly skills in a way that I don't understand.

Great Barrel, Great Customer Service

Written on Feb 24, 2020

I have the 8.25" for my blackout build and it's a great barrel. The finished is very uniform and the quality seems top-notch. It was a snug fit into my upper and the M4 feed ramps were aligned almost perfectly with my upper's. I purchased an adjustable gas block so I can't comment on the supplied on fitting with various handguards. It's easy enough to buy a new gas block if the supplied one doesn't work, just get a set-screw or clamp-on style and you're good to go.
I also contacted the company on a few occasions with various questions and their replies were quick and to the point; gave me the exact info I was looking for.

Great Handle....with some help

Written on Feb 24, 2020

This is really great looking/feeling charging handle. The 'ears' are 1.5" wide so the handle is 3" wide overall, which seems really wide compared to others I've used but getting a hand on it with optics or BUIS is a non-issue. The finish is great (though I was hoping the tungsten color would be a bit lighter to match my other NiB/Grey parts) and the operation is very smooth and solid.
Now for reason I only gave it 3 stars:
1) When the latch is locked into the upper the right tab flops around a bit. I reviewed the function of the mechanism and found that when the left tab is pulled any distance away from the right tab develops slop; makes sense because of how it operates. But when the handle is locked (bolt closed) the left tab is pushed away from the charging handle (due to the thickness of the upper receiver where it contacts) and then the right tab wiggles. Not a huge deal to most people I would imagine but I don't like my things to rattle/wiggle. I filed down the catch mechanism on the charging handle until the rattle was gone.
2) The first several time the latch didn't engage the upper, I had to push it forward another 1/16" to get it latch. I think this is a 'break in' thing because after several times pushing the handle it would then lock like it was supposed to. I figure with more use this will work and not be an issue. FYI: It did this before I modified it and after, each time getting better with more use.
So it's a great handle but for $90 I didn't expec

Nice Handguard

Written on Feb 24, 2020

I picked this handguard because the profile/style was a good match to my BDRx receiver set. I did have to remove the anti-rotation tabs as they didn't fit on the upper receiver, but the BDRx isn't mil-spec so I imagine a mil-spec upper would work just fine. The handguard is light (I got the 10" version) and the attachment is solid, even without the anti-rotation tabs this thing won't rotate. My M-lok accessories fit with no issues and there's enough clearance for my gas block.
I removed a star because the finish had a few defects; a couple of small nicks and machining imperfections. Nothing that would prevent the handguard from functioning but I thought it was worth noting.
I did have to contact RISE for the barrel nut torque (60-80 lb-ft) as it wasn't noted anywhere and their install video only tells the torque for the 3 clamping screws.

Good Selector

Written on Feb 04, 2020

This selector is a good one; nice and solid. The lever arms a bit long for my liking, the one on the trigger finger side almost gets in the way while shooting. My finger rests over it when ejecting a mag or just keeping my finger off the trigger. Install is easy and the assembly felt solid. I do like that both levers are the same length.

Great BCG; fit and looks

Written on Jan 16, 2020

I’ve not been able to shoot this yet as my build is not complete, but fit and finish are excellent. It’s very well made, the coating looks great and even and it fits perfectly in my upper. The coating feels very slick and after an initial clean-and-lube the carrier is almost hard to hold on to! Only reason for not giving 5 stars is because I have not shot it it so I can’t comment on its performance.

Great part, not compatible with all magazine release levers

Written on Dec 23, 2019

This is a well made part, is very sturdy and installation was simple. This issue I ran into was that it made contact with my Strike Industries Ambi mag release lever. So if you have an ambi mag release lever you might want to find a different bolt catch; the larger area on the 'bottom' (the part you'd press to lock the bolt back) is large and might make contact. It was a bummer because this is a great bolt catch. That's the only reason it got 4 stars.
