I would trust an IR laser to hold zero on this. I milled off the part that protrudes forward of the front sight and also put some blue loctite on the bolts. This would be a perfect addition to a budget rifle that needs a sling mount and a weapon light and nothing else. Keep It Simple Stupid.
I'm not sure if this issue starts at Streamlight or in your warehouse but it seems that people are receiving TLR switches in VIR labeled packaging. Please confirm that the product in the packaging is a VIR switch assembly and not a TLR switch assembly. They're very similar so I understand they're easily confused.
I don't have any complaints about this thing, single AA battery, no-tools for any function, and the IR laser is crisp and clear even on a full moon. One of my favorite features on this is that there's a little loop behind the QD lever to ziptie/safetywire your mount, steiner knocked it out of the park on this model. I recommend only buying lithium AA batteries to prevent acid damage.
The first issue I noticed, is that you cannot turn off the IR illuminator when using the laser, this will flood any objects immediately in front of you with IR, and you won't be able to see beyond them. I fixed this by drilling an 1/8 inch hole in a butler creek #04 objective lense cover, and pressing it over the lense. The hole is to be drilled directly over the laser aperture, PLEASE drill this hole while the lense cap is NOT on the optic. Now it's a great all-in-one solution for night shooting. Now for my gripes: you have to unmount this optic with a screwdriver to change the battery, the laser adjustments do not have positive clicks, and you CANNOT interface a TLR1 remoting module. With that said, it has a 12HR run time on IR, and an 8 dollar lense cover can fix your flood problem. Despite my complaints, I really do recommend this optic for the price/features.
Much higher quality than I was expecting for the price, the screw-assembly is aluminum and the polymer body has a nice rubbery texture about it. The storage compartment fits one CR123 and has a little rubber pad to keep the battery isolated. It's an excellent alternative if you're looking for a stubby KAC grip.
