Aero is Precision

Written on Nov 29, 2021

I'm a big fan of Aero products and hadn't yet tried out one of the upper receivers without the forward assist. I continue to be impressed. Removing the forward assist saves you money on parts, gives you a sleeker profile with one less thing to get in the way, and IMO makes sense from a safety standpoint. Aero Precision continues to redefine the standard, which in this case means going back to the original intended design.

You get what you pay for...blems

Written on Aug 30, 2021

These aren't advertised as blemished however they're inexpensive for a reason, low quality control by the manufacturer. Like everyone I wanted to save some money, saw these rated well, and purchased a few of them. All of them had poor finishing with readily observable machining marks from being poorly finished. Some companies call these blems. I over looked this on a couple shorter ones I used first because at the end of the day you really do get what you pay for and they at least functioned well. I installed a longer one at 13.5" that also had poor finishing and was willing to deal with it. The problem with this one was the anti-rotation tabs were out of spec making co-witness almost impossible. I had waited over a month to install it so a return to Optics Planet was out however the warranty was in effect. I contacted the manufacturer, mailed it back in for warranty replacement, and was given a verbal guarantee they would not replace it with a blemished product. The customer service from here on was terrible. First they tried saying it was fine and that my sights, that cost more than the hand guard, were out of spec. As proof of this the manufacturer sent me a link to an outdated blog Q&A where someone didn't understand how to install sights. The manufacturer failed to actually read the "A" part of the Q&A that essentially disproved the sights as being out of spec. After a lot of back and forth that reached a level of absurdity, the manufacturer finally agreed t

From 10 to 30 with a left over P-Mag spring for Endomag'ers

Written on Jul 08, 2021

Yes they're blocked at 10 rounds and yes they can be converted to 30 in a few steps. Take a punch or a screw driver and a hammer, punch out the small circular hold pin on the bottom, pull out the inner parts with the limiter spring and replace the spring with a full function 30 round spring. You still need to use the original top and bottom parts from the Hexmag. For all you Endomag people converting 556/223 P-mags to 9ers, save the unit you remove from the P-mag, the spring works perfect for turning this 10 rounder into a 30 rounder. Take the Hexmag feeder top and base plate bottom off the limiter spring set up and replace with the left over spring from the P-mag/Endomag conversion. I had no idea what I was doing and it took less than 10 minutes.
