Long Range Second Focal Plane Scope for a very Fair Price

Written on Jan 25, 2024

This is my first Burris XTR Second Focal Plane scope. The others were first focal plane. When shooting small targets at long range, the fine crosshairs are very nice. An 8½ x 11 sheet of paper in portrait mode fits nicely in the 1 MOA box in the center of the reticle. The turrets have distinct clicks. The parallax (focus) control works very well. The glass is not as clear as the FFP scopes, but it is still very good.

Solid 4-Star Scope

Written on Sep 04, 2017

This is a solid hunting scope. The glass is clear, the parallax adjustment works, and the reticle is crystal clear. The size is also very good for hunting scope. The 44mm objective fit nicely on a CZ 550 FS carbine. Locked into the receiver with Warne CZ-style rings, the scope rode the recoil with zero issues. For what it is worth, it is a good looking scope.

34mm Rugged and Precise Scope Rings

Written on Jul 18, 2016

Scope rings need to be precise, and they need to be rugged. The Burris 34mm XTR rings meet both requirements.

34mm rings aren't cheap, and they can be hard to find. Optics Planet had these rings in stock.

Extremely Poor Quality Lucid L5 Scope

Written on Nov 23, 2015

Upon receiving my Lucid L5 6-24x50mm scope, I removed a scope from my zeroed Wilson M4, and mounted the L5. It would not zero. The elevation and windage knobs would not track.

I sent the scope back for warranty repair. Lucid sent back the scope and a target with a box test and claimed the scope was fine. When I tried to remount the scope, I found the reticle was rotated clockwise from vertical. Obviously, no one actually looked at the scope.

There are a lot of superior scopes in this price range. Move on.
