Started getting wear on the face from the spring after less than 100 rounds, so probably softer aluminum - not mil spec. They put oil inside because they use poor quality steel weights, which sticks the rubber spaces to the weights and makes it act like one big steel weight and so your deadblow dies. Buy once, cry once. Stay away from this buffer.
I love this thing. I love the features, I love the price at around $50-$60. I love the looks. I love it especially on my longer range rifles. This is the best Magpul stock ever in my opinion and I've owned a lot!
This is a rebrand of the VECTOR OPTICS CONTINENTAL 34MM 3-18X50 TACTICAL FFP. All Vector Optics of the Continental line are made in China but use glass imported from Bremerhaven, Germany. The glass quality is very good. The whole optic is very good. Viridian scopes are all rebrands of Vector Optics scopes.
This is an very light weight and low profile handguard.Easy to install, structurally solid and does not cause a thermal poi shift like some other barrel nut mounted systems do due to unequal pressure exerted by the handguard onto the barrel nut.
These rings are probably nicer than my scope and rifle deserve but hey they're hot as all get out. Pretty sure I could have gone with cheaper rings and been just fine but these weren't so much as to break the bank and they quality rings. Fit and finish are amazing, yada, yada, yada. Would highly recommend!
I compared this scope side by side to the ATHLON ARES BTR GEN2 HD 4.5-27x50 APRS5 FFP IR MIL I bought at the same time.
It is better in almost every way. Significantly better clarity. Significantly better field of view. Somewhat better eyebox. I also think it has a much more useful reticle. The only ways in which it is not better, is that the illumination selector is stiff and it doesn't have a built in throw lever/nub.
Nevertheless I am very happy with this scope and will be returning the Athlon.
1. Remove any muzzle device and gas block from the barrel. Take the barrel nut and run it over the barrel, with the threaded end towards the breach and the end with the hex pattern towards the muzzle.
2. Install the barrel into the upper receiver and hand-tighten the barrel nut to the upper receiver.
3. Using the Crow's Foot Wrench, torque the barrel nut to 30-45 ft/lbs. Use the torque wrench/bar for detailed torque settings. 40 ft/lbs is recommended from the factory for best accuracy.
4. Install your gas block per the manufacturer recommendations. Make sure to align the gas tube correctly.
5. Slide the handguard over the barrel (it may take some small force to get the rail started over the barrel nut, that's okay). Seat fully against the upper receiver and align the rails at the top of the handguard and receiver.
6. Install the hex nuts in their receptacles on the bottom of the rail and tighten the cupped hex screws until reasonably tight. The factory recommends 30 in/lbs. Use non-permanent thread locker for long-term installations.
Something changed recently. I used to love this upgrade and never had any trouble with it. But the last one I got resulted in only light primer strikes. I swapped the hammer spring out for a standard mil spec and the rifle started firing again. I saw another reviewer state the same thing. Has something changed?
