Disappointing

Written on Mar 21, 2023

I bought this bench block for it's versatility and features. Unfortunately it has not lived up to the advertising. The first two operations I attempted to perform were not possible . The bolt extractor screw is not long enough to compress the extractor for roll pin removal. The vertical lower receiver feature would not accommodate any of the lowers I tried. The left side of the block forward pivot area prevented insertion of the lower and locking with the forward pivot pin. The side lower receiver side bed did work.

Good But Issues

Written on Jul 30, 2022

Once installed, the function of the FAB folding pistol grip is excellent. However, getting it installed is the problem. First there are no instructions and no hardware. You'll have to go get a 1/4" x 28 x 1" CAP screw to mount . Only a CAP screw will work, as the that is what the attachment base is recessed to use. Second you have to fold the grip back to tighten the screw. Last the end of the "backstrap" may extend past the back of your receiver and/or interfere with the seating of your back plate.

Bright but Issues with Switch

Written on Mar 09, 2020

No real directions, but waiting 5 seconds between use, will keep the light in the desired mode. Works but not simple. Remote pad failed after minor use. I have one of the single battery lights which has been OK so far.

Not as robust as a standard pin

Written on Oct 22, 2018

I bought several of these sets to protect the trigger group holes of my AR15/45 lowers. The concept seemed to make sense, however the materials used are not nearly as strong as a standard solid hammer/trigger pin. First thing you notice is that the "pins" are just a hollow tube, with a lateral hole part way down. I assume this is for lubrication.

The first time I fired an AR45 with them installed, the screws loosened up and fell out and the "bones" blocked the trigger. I assumed this was from poor locktite, so I reapplied and reinstalled. This seemed to solve the problem, but on each post firing inspection I had one screw that would never tighten fully. I assumed this might be from a stripped thread.

Unfortunately, my previously perfect AR45 began to "slam fire" (a lot) randomly, but with increasing frequency. The post cleaning disconnector/safety function checks were always good and I began to look at other causes. This happened between 200-500 rds. Finally a disconnector function check started to show intermittent failures and I noticed the disconnector hook was not centered on the hammer hook. I disassembled the trigger group and discovered the hammer pin had broken at the hole I mentioned. This is why that screw would not fully tighten. It appears the broken pin would move just enough to cause the misfires and then eventually realign after manual or semi-auto cycling. The misalignment also damaged the disconnector hook. When I replaced disconnector and used soli

Excellent Rear Sling Attachment Point

Written on Sep 10, 2018

Excellent rear sling attachment point. Allows for a easy movement of rifle side to side. Works well with a Magpul MS3 sling. It's a little tricky to install the "cotter" key, while depressing the butt plate against the take down pin retaining spring, but a "third" hand makes it easy.

Excellent Sight

Written on Sep 06, 2018

Excellent sight. Plenty of info on bullet drop (BDC) and lead markings. Being an etched sight, there is no flare as in a red dot. The markings are clear and easy to use. Night illumination is as needed, but manual control. Since this sight is magnified, co-sighting is not possible, so a QDC mount or offset BUIS is required. Would be nice if a QDC came standard. Frankly, if this sight were unusable you might as well remove it and go to BUIS.

Somewhere I read this sight would also BDC work with .300 BLK, but I am unsure as they make specific version for that. Would be nice to have full interchangeability across 5.56mm and .300 BLK.

Good Solid QDC Mount

Written on Sep 04, 2018

Good solid mount. Comes with replacement screws. Fits Primary Arms AQ sight and probably others depending on hole spacing. Must replace foot on Primary Arms AQ sight, there is no upper Picatinny slotting. Note one set of screws hex slots are metric, the other SAE.

Magpul MIAD Grip Core Bolt & Pin Ok with issues

Written on Aug 26, 2018

Magpul MIAD Grip Core Bolt & Pin storage core works, but has issues that I'm just not used to seeing in a Magpul product.
The core does not hold the bolt securely, so you cannot insert the core when the pistol grip is pointed up, less the bolt falls free. The firing pin retainer should be a pressure fit through hole instead of a "clip" as the slightest little "bump", during storage in the pistol grip, knocks the pin free. Finally, the biggest flaw is the alignment of the firing pin when inserting the core. The firing pin eventually will go into the grip hole (after several tries), that allows adjusting of an upper tension screw. It's just harder than it needs to be. A bigger hole might help.

Additionally, there is no provision to store a firing pin retainer cotter pin. This easily lost or broken item, is essential to have on hand for changing a firing pin or bolt. I managed to add one via a small plastic bag wrapped around the bolt tube.

Overall a great idea, but needs some design improvements. I have had five star experience with the other versions of this product.

Works as Designed

Written on Aug 09, 2018

This is a standard weight buffer that works as designed with 16" barrel. Functioned flawlessly in what is a MILSPEC AR-15 build. Tested by standard function check and then fired 100 rounds with no issues. Ordered a second one.

Good "Bang for the Buck"

Written on May 14, 2018

Nice sling that will convert to most standard configurations. Instead of buying multiple slings to find "what you really wanted", this sling will let you experiment without paying for a "sling collection". Once you find it your setup, this will become your go to sling.
