Got this to add to a Radical Firearms Socom upper. The upper needed a front sight, and I like the green laser, so it seemed like no brainer, especially since I scored a good deal on it at $45 shipped.
First impressions are mixed. 1) It’s heavy, adding 1/4 pound to the very front of your rifle. 2) The laser’s windage and elevation adjustment screws are located on the front, inside the screw-on bezel, and are really a PITA to adjust. AND since you have to remove the front portion of the laser to change the battery, it looks like a rezeroing will be required any time you do just that. 3) Fit and finish? :-( When I first tried sliding it on the top rail it would get hung up and approximately 1/2 of it was hanging off the front of the rail. Seems there were a couple of small aluminum (pointed and sharp I might add) pieces protruding on the underside which kept it from sliding back. Once I knocked them off I was able to position the sight where I wanted. 4) It looks good mounted on the rail. Not nearly as gaudy as I was afraid it might.
The upper is 5.56, so the recoil shouldn’t be so bad that it throws the laser out of zero. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get to the range since this arrived, but as soon as I do I’ll update this review.
I just received this scope and thought I'd share my initial observations.
I ordered it on 2/10/16, and it arrived 3/17/16. 36 days is a looooonnnnnng time to wait. Calls to OP customer service for status updates resulted in being told each time that the scope was on backorder.
The good:
Opening the box, the scope was packaged very well and included all the necessary accessories. NCStar ALWAYS does a great job of packaging/presenting their products.
Came with lense covers. Not flip ups, but great for protecting the glass when in storage or transporting.
QD Mount works flawlessly once you adjust the set nut to your rail.
The reticle appears lined up and perfectly perpendicular.
The glass is pretty good considering the price, and the 3.5 magnification makes viewing targets out to 100 yards easy.
The not so good:
The rheostat knob for turning on/adjusting the illuminated reticle is VERY difficult to turn. Something got overtightened at the factory.
The eye relief is just about 2". You really need to have a collapsible stock to get close enough to see the target through the reticle. Shame on me for not realizing that prior to purchasing.
I'll be going to range next week, so we'll see how it holds up to the recoil from my LR308. I'll update this review after that.
