Most Helpful Positive Review Excellent value-priced electronic muffs
I am very pleased with the Caldwell low-profile electronic muffs - very good sound reduction, comfortable, easily-accessible battery compartment holding 2 x AAA batteries, and folds up compactly - all at a great price. Pros: Very good sound reduction, great price. Cons: None
Most Helpful Negative Review safe ears
I bought 2 pair. 1st pair only one side was working. does cancel out the loud sounds and amplifies sufficiently the low. Pros: not expensive Cons: not the best quality

Way better than you might think

by Trop, from GA, United States Written on October 24, 2022
These work way better than the price would lead you to believe . I allowed other shooters at the range try them , made them upset with their higher cost ear protection . Also , delivery was surprisingly quick .

Good Price but...

by Common Man, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on April 3, 2021
In my opinion, this unit is just ok unit when it comes to transitioning from a fully passive to electric headset. It works ok when up close and facing the right direction, but for overall loud noises coming from all directions, I did not find them ideal. I found myself having to use foam or even my Jabra 75t earbuds in conjunction with these Caldwells to get the protection I personally needed. Just going back to my much older passive headset was a better option. Although I could not hear voices as well as with the Caldwells, the single point of protection was much better.

Now one might ask "...what do you expect for the price"? I say there is truth in that question. BUT, at the same time, if you make it and sell it, don't produce for a low price point if the product is not going to work. Don't blame the customer because you don't like the truth.

Overall, I say give them as try and see what you think. They might work for you. I believe at the very least, you might appreciate having to pay much more for something like Peltors or others. My next move, move up to a $200 range headset and see what I think.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Size
  • portability and ease of use
Cons:
  • protection

Great set of electronic muffs.

by JPHII, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on May 30, 2018
This is my first set of electric muffs and I love them. I have a lot of hearing damage from several years of unprotected small arms fire so I opted for the higher Db rating rather than the low profile. I do mostly handgun shooting so the profile is not much of a consideration. I am getting into 3 Gun competition now and theses will probably do just fine, but it never hurts to have a backup set so I'll purchase some low profile muffs this time. I would recommend these units as they are comfortable for an hour or two (probably longer, but I haven't needed to) conversations are loud and clear and sound attenuation is excellent. I would buy again and probably will.
Pros:
  • Easy to use, work well, well made, very good value for the money
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Range shooting, Working with power tools

Great for the range

by Gary, Verified Owner from IA, United States Written on May 21, 2018
Great affordable hearing protectors. I like that it's now much easier for me to hear range officers instructions, but the gun fire is muted like most muffs. I have not tried the more expensive muffs, but I don't how you can improve at this price point. Thanks for a great deal Optics Planet!
Pros:
  • Great Price and Quality
Cons:
  • none so far

Caldwell Emax Hearing Protector

by Fly USMC, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on December 2, 2017
I bought two of these to use when shooting with my kids. They have worked well. It isn't like I have been testing them against each other but they seem to block loud noise as well as my various non-electric muffs. The nice thing is that these do allow and amplify noise from normal conversational levels, which is nice when you are wearing foam earplugs under the muffs.
Pros:
  • Allow normal conversation while wearing
Cons:
  • Non noted

Great Product

by SniperW, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on September 14, 2017
These things work, and they're comfortable also. You can't beat the price-------------I shoot long-range rifles with recoil reducers on the muzzles, also .357 mags and .38 Super handguns, all extremely loud, and these headphones easily handle all of them.

Good fit and Good protection

by Tanfagilo Godnefew, Verified Owner from WV, United States Written on September 14, 2017
The ear muffs work great. They protect my ears from competition gunfire. Their fit is very good even over my hats that I wear during competition. The sound magnifier works great. The only con I have to offer is that the muffs do not compress small enough to fit in my pocket of my shooting bag. Overall, I good product.
Pros:
  • ear protection from gunfire
Cons:
  • does not compress small enough for range bag
Best Used for:
  • all around use on range day

Good Results with Blind (or should I say deaf?) Testing

by ron, from WV, United States Written on April 11, 2017
I purchased these for my wife after having previously purchased another well known brand for myself. The only time we have used them on the range, my wife wore these. She kept yelling at me when she was talking and I didn't know why until I realized she had not turned on the microphones. I would have to say these work very well even without the electronics. I may start wearing them around the house, but I am sure I would get in trouble eventually. Seriously, these do the job well. Good product at a great price! Save your hearing and get some.

Caldwell E-Max Electronic Hearing Protection

by AlanV, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on March 24, 2016
The item worked as expected. Good battery life: 2 weeks of daily use so far on the same batteries. Once they are put on, they are pretty comfortable, with on/off nob is easily accessible. On the not so good side: I haven´t been able to fold them easily and quickly - it folds, but you have to make adjustments on the sliding arms and when it finally folds it does not set even on both sides, a minor inconvenience. If you put some kind of audio signal through its audio jack, it comes out of low quality suitable only for voice and to hear anything you´d have to put the volume at maximum.
Conclusion: very good for the cheapest product of the kind on the market. Recommended.
Pros:
  • Price
  • battery life
  • Funcionality
Cons:
  • Design
Best Used for:
  • shooting/range day
