Most Helpful Positive Review Cryptic 223/5.56 BCG
I bought the Cryptic 223/5.56 mystic silver chrome BCG. This BCG is amazing. The quality of this BCG is very nice. The cleanup is a breeze. It ran flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this BCG for anyone looking to upgrade or use in a new build.
Most Helpful Negative Review Decent BCG
Bolt came packaged jn cheap clear plastic clam shell similar to packaging for a cheap knife you’d find on the end isle at an outdoor outfitters. Bolt is very stiff inside carrier. Is difficult to remove for dissemble and bolt literally has to be slammed back into carrier to reassemble. Staking on ga...

I have like 10 of these now. Majority black nitride and a few phosphate. They just run. Easy to clean. Haven't got a bad one yet. Like the upgraded packaging. Highly recommend.

Cryptic BCG

Took this BCG out for a range session and so far so good, ran smoothly with no issues and clean up was a breeze. Will definitely be running this harder and more frequently, based on what I've read and seen the results should be the same..

I now own 3 of these BCG

by Mr Orange, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on June 27, 2025
I am also the proud owner of a Geissele BCG, Micro Best BCG and Tool Craft Nickel boron BCG. I love the cryptic coatings lubricity. I always find the Cryptic Coatings Nickel Boron Bolts on sale and put the others up for backups. The price is negligible so I figured just get the entire BCG. I have a Mystic Black and 2 Mystic Bronze. The Black did indeed come with a loose bolt and its tolerances could have been better. But again it did work and is now a backup anyway. With the nickel boron bolt it runs as good as my Geissele. It was another Bronze one or a BCM BCG and the BCM was $20 more because of a sale. The ironic thing is I would pay $20 more for the Cryptic but not vice versa.

I am still wanting to get one other company that I have a friend who has one but they are sold out until Dec. Those would be the only ones I would want over these and I am not saying the name on purpose.
Pros:
  • durable
  • reliable
  • Smooth
  • Looks
  • Quality feel
  • Easy clean
Cons:
  • Nickel Boron Bolt works better than the pretty ones
  • Gas rings were worn on one unit when purchased
Best Used for:
  • cold weather
  • builds

Cryptic Black Nitride & Phosphate BCGs

by johnchip, Verified Owner from CT, United States Written on June 24, 2025
I've purchased Cryptic's Black Nitride and Manganese Phosphate BCGs and for the price you get a really good mil-spec BCG. The black nitride BCG is super slick, easy to clean and runs great, however, the carrier and the carriers gas key don't come chrome lined. The phosphate version does come with a chrome lined carrier and gas key. They both have chrome finished firing pins and have properly staked gas key screws. Both of them have C158 bolts with MPI stamped on them. The black nitride version has a C158 stamp on the bolt where as the phosphate version does not. I assume they don't stamp phosphate version with C158 because on their website they only offer it in C158 where as the black nitride versions bolt is offered in C158 and 9310. These BCGs are HPT batched tested and not individually tested. I have put over 1000 rounds through both of them at this point and never experienced any malfunctions. I am not 100% sure but their specs are very reminiscent to Toolcraft BCGs and they may very well be under the coatings and logo. Never the less, I think Cryptic does a great job applying their coatings to them, making them very easy to clean and very reliable to run. I own six black nitride BCGs and one manganese phosphate. I have not tried their "Mystic" coated BCGs but from what I've read in the reviews they supposedly are great and super easy to clean. I am not willing to pay over ~$200 for their special coating. Their black nitride and phosphate versions work just fine for me an...
