Most Helpful Positive Review Military to Civilian: Excellent Optic
This Optic was excellent in '04-'05 when I used it n Mosul, Iraq as part of the U.S. Army Infantry (1/24 Infantry). It was the same model. This Optic stood up to incredible use and abuse. The Red Circle with the 1 MOA Dot is beautifully sharp when compared to other Red Dots (including the CompM2 ...

Most Helpful Negative Review Eotech 512 will not hold zero
Eotech recalled optics for failure to hold zero until Mar 2017. When using sight made in Nov 2012 this winter (Dec 2017) to sight in a AR15 it could not hold/return to zero in cold temps (worked in desert temps and more mild weather before that). It was way, way off even for shots well within 50 y...

Exceptional… it’s everything you want.

by Crosshairy, from KY, United States Written on July 21, 2025
Originally mounted on 300 ACC Blackout. Performed excellent. But decided to put the sight designed for the blackout on it. I purchased a Ruger LC 45ACP and put it on it. Now my favorite firearm. Ringing steel at 50 yards is boring. 100’s of rounds down range and still on the money. A+
Pros:
  • Easy to mount and to zero
Cons:
  • None

Hard to beat for heavy weapons.

by S. Templar, D.D., Verified Owner from WV, United States Written on June 20, 2025
I own two of these optics. They are iconic for a reason. I have used and owned just about everything. From Zeiss to Shield, to Aimpoint, to Leupold, and everything in between. When it comes to my heavy weapons, the 512.A65 is my go-to electronic sight. Old reliable!

Old Reliable

by Paul, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on May 1, 2025
It's an EOTech 512. Simple, incredibly sturdy and reliable, and has the better part of 25+ years of global conflict abroad to be battle-proven. If you want an EOTech and don't want or need all the bells and whistles of Night-vision settings, QD, and CR 123A operation, then this is the model to go for. It is a little pricey, but it is worth it for a domestically American sight where so many other options are available that are outsourced, shoddy construction and questionable reliability.
Pros:
  • easy to use
  • battery life
  • reliable
  • great construction
  • AA Batteries
  • easy to install
Cons:
  • Pricey
Best Used for:
  • plinking
  • Tactical
  • Target shooting
  • Close ,mid and intermediate ranges.

EOTech 512 A65 Holographic Weapon Sight

by Bluesman, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on February 23, 2025
This is the Holographic Sight to have for the AR Platform for close to medium range accuracy. Very well made, durable and tested tough in the field. Mine has been flawless so far. The AA batteries are easy to find and have on hand when needed. The auto shut off feature helps the batteries last longer. Mounted correctly it holds zero spot on. Very pleased wit this sight.
Pros:
  • East Target Acquisition, great eye relief. Holds zero.
Cons:
  • short battery life
Best Used for:
  • AR Platform close to medium range

It’s what it’s worth

by 918 UNDERGROUND, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on December 5, 2024
I have many optics but decided to give this EOTECH a try. It’s not as big in person like the images show which is cool. I also do like that it takes pretty inexpensive batteries that you could get from your local store. The cons for me is the rail space. If you’re trying to put this on a SBR with other accessories I would not recommend this optic because it takes a good portion of the rail, I would go with the exps version of the eotech. This optic is good for the right person that doesn’t see themselves using night vision because this optic does not offer NVM. So it doesn’t come with a heavy price tag. I’m running this on a 458 socom AR platform with a 18” barrel.

Terrible reticle

by Moose, Verified Owner from MA, United States Written on October 20, 2024
I’m 62 years old and have been around for a while. I have many scopes, red dots and lasers. I have to say that this is the worse optic I have ever seen. The reticle is a blurry and pixilated ring of fire with no sharp edges and the dot is a fuzzy blob. I called EOTech and they told me that the optic was functioning properly……all I could do was laugh. After I told him I have a $49 truglo with better optics he said the EOTech was battle proven. I could have bought five Sig Romeo 5s for what I paid for this piece of junk. If the ring on the optic is supposed to be used as a ghost ring for holdover, then you need a sharp edge and clear dot this optic has neither. Overpriced trash!

Finally Broke Down And Did It

by James Nelson, Verified Owner from LA, United States Written on January 11, 2024
I finally gave up on the Chinese copies. They worked fine for my range purposes but eventually failed. Now, for the cost, I have a warranty.
