I purchased this sight for Law Enforcement use. The sight looks great and functions even better. The fact that it is powered by AA (cheap and usually available) batteries is definitely a plus! Now the only problem is that I want a few more for my other guns!

Don't be a knucklehead! Any rifle you buy will shoot straight out of the box. Don't cheap out on the optics by bolting a cheap Chinese copy/clone/imitation piece of junk on your AMERICAN made AR. EOTech is what the professionals use and what the platform deserves. Fast target acquisition and repeatability. You will NOT regret the investment and Optics Planet has the best prices on the Web.

Installed on Windham 5.56 AR. Used to have a Nikon 3-9 P223 BDC scope on it but tried this instead. Shooting at running coyotes with a scope doesn't work well for me. And safety-wise, if i'm tracking something on the run I want a wide field of view so I don't accidentally sweep across something I don't want a bullet headed towards. Scopes with magnification don't give you that. The Eotech 517 is the answer for me. With both eyes open and focused on the target there is none of the narrowing of field of vision that comes from looking through a tube. Rapid target aquisition, unlimited eye relief,rock solid optic, worth the money. Love the reticle. Pick up the target in the circle, then pin point the shot with the red dot, pull the Geiselle trigger, game over. My only complaint is it will fog up when exposed to significant temperature changes. Temporary, but annoying. Haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life. I don't see that as a concern. They are AA's, big deal. If you can afford this optic, you can afford a few batteries.

Excellent products I recommend this direct eotech 517. I use this sight eotech 517 with my stag arms 3g and is excellent combo. The batteries are available in anywhere. In my opinion this sight is the best red dot available. My background is military police and police officer.

This is the first Eotech sight I have purchased, and I am not disappointed. It was very easy to mount and get sighted - I barely had to move the adjustments to get zeroed. It works perfectly for a lower third co-witness with my buis and A2 front sight. It seems on the big and heavy side, but in reality most of it mounts low to the rail, making it more compact than most scopes. I have tried it out on targets and on varmints, and I have to say that it is the fastest sight I have shot on a rifle. The circle dot works great for acquisition - no hunting for the reticle and the center dot is small enough not to obscure the target. I wish it would stay on the last brightness setting, instead of defaulting to the mid setting. I like to turn it off, when not shooting, so I have to return it to the setting I desire. I really like this sight for close range out to 100yds. I've made some close range shots with it on an M4 length carbine on moving targets that I would normally reserve for a shotgun. The Eotech definitely increases my capability with a rifle at close ranges.
Pros: easy to mount and sight-in, wide range of brightness settings, super fast target acquisition.
Cons: somewhat large and heavy, resets to mid range brightness setting upon turn off/on.

This is an easy to use and durable optic for a reasonable price. Easy to zero, fun to shoot with.
