Okay so I'm going for a Light weight build and needed a good handguard that was at least 11" and under 1oz per inch.
Most everything I found in this category was over 200 and even closer to 300, which is wild for what it is (extruded aluminium) or in this case a magnesium/aluminum alloy.
I first ordered the 10 inch, but it wasnt quite long enough to cover a mid length gas system so I got the 13".
One reviewer here (and on reddit) claims the guard moves around in use and he stripped out the threads because the design has the clamp screwing into the magnesium itself, which can't take much torque before stripping. Even the instructions say hand tight only.
I knew all this before purchasing so I got some measurements.
The barrel nut itself it's actually an interference fit. 1.39" and the hand guard itself it is 1.37" so not a lot of torque is needed to hold it to the nut itself. The screw that keeps the guard from moving forward is comically small, but Im assuming this is for weight savings as you could fit a much larger screw into the groove on the barrel nut itself.
So the solution is easy.
Add green loctite 620 (retaining compound) to the outside of the barrel nut before pressing the hand guard into place. Let it cure for 24 hours and I promise you it's not moving without some serious heat applied to that barrel nut.
While it's curing degrease your screws and add blue loctite then get them hand tight.
Id suggest having your rail accessories planned out in advance so y...
