Most Helpful Positive Review Hawke Sport Optics Vantage 4-12x40 (.17 HMR)
Was looking for a scope to put on my new Savage A17 and really didn't want to go the cheap plastic route. Read through all the scope options on Optics Planet and chose this scope even though at the time there was only one review. Couldn't be happier! Great workmanship, very tight. Clean glass and NO...

Most Helpful Negative Review Hawke Vantage 4-12x40 with Mil-Dot reticle
I chose this Hawke scope because it was an affordable option for a spring airgun that I'm getting soon. I wanted a mil-dot scope that I could use to estimate hold-over for longer distances with a .22 cal pellet. Upon opening that package to inspect me new scope, I quickly discovered an obvious qua...

Very good quality for the monies

by GG686, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on November 4, 2025
This is my second HAWKE scope (2-7 on my 10-22)
Glass is clear and adjustments are accurate and repeatable.
I have the 4-12x40 17HMR reticle, Zeroed at 100yds... then the 150yards co witness at 50ya .5 low. (Ruger 77/17) Plenty good for tree rats.
Red and green lit reticle help find aiming point in low light situations.
With good rings these scopes hold zero well bouncing around on a 4x4.
My 2-7 has held up very well even with the self-inflicted battel scars, over 3 years of abuse.
The adjustable parallax down to 15 yards is a game changer (as opposed to 50yards on others) allowing higher magnification usage at short -medium distance.
Very good rimfire or centerfire system for hunting and range use.
Pros:
  • value for the $$$
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting, range day

Not too impressed for the price point.

by Scott, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on December 20, 2023
First off the pros. I love the reticle. The look, the feel and the bdc is accurate enough. Now the cons.Optic quality declines quickly after 8 power. The turrets are horrible. They take me back to the 70s. Numbers, marks are not clearly visible, and tracking seems to be off a bit. The illuminated reticle is really weak unless you are in really low light.
This could be a battery issue as the battery was installed. Other scopes i have with lighted reticle have had the battery in the box not installed. Definitely not daylight bright. I thought I would like the green illumination, but i still prefer the red. Decent scope, but for the price point I know there are far better scopes to be had.I would personally look elsewhere if I were in the market.
Pros:
  • I love the reticle. Look feel of it and accuracy of BDC is nice.
Cons:
  • Optic quality diminishes after 8 power rapidly. Turrets are horrible and seem to be off a bit. Think of like 1970 tasco type turrets. Illumination is weak. Not daylight bright at all.
Best Used for:
  • Target and hunting 22 mag.

Not a good scope

by Shep, from AL, United States Written on August 11, 2023
The only reason for the 1 star is customer service. I mounted on my 30-06. I bore sighted and fired 2 shots. Then i noticed the cross hairs shifting with each successive shot. Long story short, the windage adjustment had broken.

Yes, the scope was replaced under warranty, so no issue with customer service. However, I am out $17 for shipping and equipped with a scope I don't trust for a center fire rifle.

I bought a Burris and sold the Hawke.

bad mill dots

by Roger Newo, Verified Owner from MO, United States Written on September 11, 2021
I purchased for a long range AR-15 build. Appears to be a great scope otherwise. I could see a fly on a leaf at 200yrds clearly. The mill-dots how ever are very hard to see and not much help at longer ranges. I probably use it on another rifle, And buy something better for the build.

Hawke vs any scope

by Ron, from MS, United States Written on October 30, 2020
Garrett's sporting goods in meridian Mississippi recommended Hawke Scopes to me.. I thank them everyday. CW the owner told me and I quote I'll sell you any expensive scope you want back there my selection but you won't be the better scope and if you use it for a year or five years and don't like it bring it back and I'll sell you another one of them expensive Scopes anytime any place you want if you any problem I'll get you a new one. That was five hawke scopes ago.. the scope is clear as a bell optically speaking. And handle recoil from any caliber rifle just fine... Folks to the arithmetic pick any scope and look at the money I've saved and on my 100% satisfied customer for hawkebscopes
